that the people who have been racing and making a living tuning these trucks for YEARS (PSP,JDM,JLP) have been outdone by some mystery truck and nobody here knows about it?

sorry to be arguementative, but I find that a little hard to believe.

not IMPOSSIBLE mind you, but hard to believe all the same.

At least your argument was constructive

So how many Lightning owners post in this and other web forums out of the total amount of trucks sold? Although I'm new to this board, I'm not new to performance and I know a lot of gearheads who could give a crap about these websites. They don't go around posting their latest timeslip for everyone to see.

That doesn't say we can't enjoy ourselves here but I don't think we should all be so myopic into thinking that the only fast Lightnings are owned by members of this and other online forums.

I, for one, still respect the 9.88 Johnny Lightning ran. All the major tuners seem to have fast trucks and fast customer trucks and that is always great to see. I just don't think we should count out the rest of the Lightning population out there.

Perhaps, however the fact your "annoyed" by their accomplishements and have no proof to the contrary only makes you look ridiculous.

Thank you, exactly what I was trying to say....

I'm not annoyed by his accomplishments, I think it's awesome, where did I say I was annoyed by his runs.

It's just one sided to think that there is no other trucks out there that are faster. We don't know for sure that some old school muscle car guy hasn't built a lower end, and sprayed the **** out of it to a 9second run.

Just saying, how can ANYONE claim to be the fastest?? Semantics on one level, but as stated before, myopic on another.

Try not using big words that your not familiar with Ed, it just makes you look worse.

Dont you think that if some "old school muscle guy" actually did what you mentioned, he would have to get his parts from someone? He would have to have it tuned by someone and furthermore, he would have done it at a track with people around to witness it. So, we as a group can count on the fact that JL is the quickest and Sal is number 2 for now because nobody has contested their runs, and Sal's run stood for almost or over a year without contestation(big word there for ya).

There are lots of people that have fast trucks that dont post, as a matter of fact, JL probrably has the most 10 second daily driven truck owners that dont post and JDM has the most that do, Sal probrably has a few that dont post also.

One of the reasons they dont post is because its more entertaining to read than to join in.

I would venture to say that 80 percent of the L's in Maryland are faster than you, but is that because they post? No, its because its documented.

Later...

I'm not arguing that most people are faster than me, that's fine.

I'm not arguing that JL is the fastest that we know of right now, congrats to him.

But honestly, it could be a mail order chip. I mean a guy lists his mods and so forth asks for a chip and doesn't report or post his times. There are other small tuners who use programs and software capable of tuning our trucks. There are tons of tuners across the US that don't post on this forum.

I'm not trying to take anything away from anyone, Johnny's run was very impressive, as are Dales, Sals, Vinnies, whomever....but don't count out the possibility of another person who might be faster.

There's always someone faster.

Black 2000,

Do you have to post your latest achievements if you purchase parts from a vendor? I think not. Furthermore, you don't have to go to JLP, JDM, PSP, REM, or any other of the vendors that frequent the boards for a built motor, power-adder, and "parts." I've browsed through this forum and have seen people adding Novi 2000s and turbochargers to their Lightnings but I don't see the vendors offering kits specific for our trucks.

My point is that the selection of parts offered to Lightning owners is not limited to what is offered by any of these online vendors. While most of the bolt-on guys call them up for parts, the truly hardcore individuals who are after the record-breaking ETs need a lot of custom fabricated items that the vendors don't offer. We need to think outside the realm of 4 pound lower pulleys and 12 inch air filter kits.

The same goes for tuning.

As for documentation, running a consistent string of ETs at your local track with witnesses is enough, correct? Or does documentation have to be verified by online eyes for it to hold value?

Not trying to belittle the accomplishments of our tuners here, but there could very well be some random guy out there who has sunk a large amount of change in their Gen 2 Lightning and not have to be a customer of our vendors. ie Gen 2 Lightning with a thumper, F.A.S.T., tubbed, 4-link....you get the drift.

Even if this was the case and there was another 9 second Lightning around.... Don't you think that someone would have seen them at a track somewhere and would have posted it.
Like, I was at Track bumble**** the other day and there was this white Lightning there, no one knew about him or ever heard of him but he was running mid 9's. BS

We have people from every state on here and people that go to big and small drag racing events around the country. So even if there is a "9 second" Lightning out there besides Johnny's he must not drag race it at any events or tracks. Maybe someone has built there own performace parts and installed them, then keeps the Lightning in his garage and never races it at any events. not likely.

Give credit where credit is due. Until someone else shows there face around or someone has seen another, Johnny is the only L in the 9s right now.

Yes you're right.

I could tell you that Bill Anderson has the fastest GN in the world but somewhere in California some guy has never heard of him and is saying he's the fastest and his friends all believe him because they don't know any better.

If we only went by what is posted and known about then I have the Fastest 785 Yamaha Waveblaster in the world....SWEET.

I'm not taking credit away from Johnny, just maintaining that there is a possiblity that someone might be faster than Johnny, Sal, or Jim....

Pointless though, because obviously nothing could happen without a member of F150 seeing it, good call
