Should I have raced this guy?

Ok, I was on my way home from the airport after saying goodbye to a friend when this guy in a Dodge rolls up next to me. At first I thought nothing of it, but my girlfriend rolled down her window and the guy was yelling that he wanted to race for money. I took one look at the guys truck and thought to myself this guy has got to be joking. He was driving a crew cab dodge ram 1500 with the 5.9L and not the Hemi, but he was dead serious about wanting to race me for money. I laughed at him and told him that he wouldn't have a chance in hell in beating me, and then told him to stop wasting my time. I never race for money and told the guy that, but then he started saying, "what are you scared? If your so confident that you will be beat me why not make some money then." I continued to tell the guy no I race for the enjoyment and not for money, and if he wanted to run me it would be just for fun and nothing else. His truck looked and sounded 100% stock and even had dealer tags on it. To be honest with you I know damn well I would have wasted this guy like no other, but there was something real shady about this guy that was telling me not to run him. He claims that his motor has work done to it, but I am no idiot when it comes to motors and I can tell you that his crew cab ram was 100% stock with little 15" or 16" wheels and what looked like P235 tires. I got the feeling the guy was up to something no good, so I bowed out. What do you guys think?

By the way my 2003 Lightning only has a JLP FAI kit on it right now.

Sometimes going with the internal warning message is the smartest thing to do! So I'd say you did the right thing at that time! Artie

Never turn down a race from anyone. Even if you know you can stomp him and he's asking for it, go ahead and stomp him. It's fun to see the guys reaction.

Even if you think you'll lose, go ahead and try him. I raced a Z-28 that I thought would beat me. I raced him 3 times and beat him 3 times.

I Laugh,

I'd say either the guy has a great Poker Face,
OR
He was going to roll you and steal your money and or maybe the Lightning so he could have a REAL TRUCK. hehehehehehe

NO FOOL IN A DODGE "TRUCK" CAN POSSIBALY EVEN BEGIN TO THINK HE'S GOING TO BEAT A FORD LIGHTNING, CAN HE

But then again I find ricers in 22 sec POS's that still want to race

No harm in walking away from that one,
ALTHOUGH WE ARE ALL ON A QUEST HERE TO BEAT UP ON A DODGE AT ANY GIVEN OPPORTUNITY

Ya, sometimes its better to walk away. He might even have been a cop for all you know. About an hour ago I had some retard in an 80's corvette piping me at a stop light. I'm pretty sure I would have wailed on him, but maybe he could have got me. I didn't care. The fact was, the guy was a meat head, street racing isn't real safe to begin with, and running a guy like that on the street could have been leading to trouble if he can't handle his car. I laughed and waved. I have nothing to prove.

1. smart move not racing on street
2. smarter move not racing for money
3. you would have taken him, those trucks are pig heavy.
4. you should have given him a 4 truck head start ... just so you can fly past him faster than just pulling ahead
5. may have been a cop. (ya never know)

Yeah wait until you race an undercover cop, and then lets see if you will be saying that.

Wouldn't an undercover cop asking you to race be considered entrapment?

Ya it would be entrapment (I believe) but all he has to do is deny it...its your word against his. As crappy as this seems, there are a LOT of crooked cops out there.

side note I DO have a high respect for LEO's and the job they do, but you cant deny there are bad apples out there.

That is entrapment and soliciting. I live in a small town and our cops don't pose as drag racers. They are to busy busting the meth labs, bar fights, and people with loud stereos. When I race, we go to a long 4 lane highway with no side streets and we just endanger ourselves.

You should sell your 03whitelightin and get a regular F-150. Your to paranoid to have any fun with it anyway.
