Upper Pulley??

Hey guys, I am currently running a 4lb crank pulley right now and I was considering a 2lb upper also. I could also change the bottom to a 6lb instead. Is this safe for a daily driver?...What do you guys think? Give me your opinions? I was planning on putting on Long Tube Headers and high flow cats and I was going to do this at the same time! Thanks!

Seek and you shall find

The usual reply on this subject is not to mess with the upper pulley as you could potentially damage the blower shaft when pulling off the stock pulley. Regardless of you are installing a larger lower or installing a smaller upper, you'll end up with the same effect; a higher SC pressure and thus moving into what's considered "unsafe".

Personally, I drive with a #8 lower and use my Lightning as a daily driver, but as my chip is a single posistion I have it running with a moderate tune. That's not to say that I wont blow a plug tomorrow.....

Now me on the other hand, (who never listens to anyone)
went ahead well over 2-1/2 years ago and did the upper pulley
"along with a 4lb lower". Back then I was like the Black Sheep
of the Forum, no one was running uppers, and as porsen just
said everyone insisted it was a no no, and it could ruin or damage your Eaton, (or at least the Upper Shaft).

IMO, it remains the best move I ever made
First of all, it took all of minutes to do, I went with the more expensive Dial-Ur-Boost Quick Change Upper Pulley System,
by South Florida Pulley Headquarters. HERE

I DO NOT have the non-slip one, (it wasn't available at the time)
but here's a picture of it

The only down side is you also have to buy "A Puller Tool", which actually cost almost as much as the Upper Pulley, but I still Love the system, and having the option of switching back and forth. There are other reasons it's a better way to go than just a Lower Pulley but everytime I get into it everyone disagrees.
But I'll say it anyway, a Upper Pulley WILL give you Boost FASTER (there I said it, let the war begin) LOL

Thats all I'll say about that, but the best reason I bought it is because I like having the option of switching back and forth between 4lbs and 5-6 lbs. I also remove the smaller pulley and go with a stock size in the dangerous cold Winter Months here in NY (that insurance was WELL WORTH the extra money of a Quick Change System)

I also have a 4lb lower, ported s/c, AFCO HE and a 2.8 upper on my truck. You can't go wrong in my book. It's the tune that counts!

Anyway you do it is fine, Upper have been used since early 01 by many people that dont even post here anymore.

One other option is to buy a new Eaton Snout and pulley. You can change your SC oil and all when you do that.

I ran 6-8lbs of boost over stock for over 25k miles and 1200+ 1/4mile passes with no problems.

Its all in the tune and maintenace....
