Disappointing day at the track
I don't know why I get so excited about things. Every time I anitcipate or plan a good time everything falls apart.
Things turn out the best when it is spur of the moment and all the chicken bones fall just right.
Been looking forward to going to our fun ford weekend here in Denver.
I tripple waxed the truck.
Installed the new Bassani exhaust.
Upgraded my front speakers.
Ordered 2 new F 1's.
So the sun cracks it's behind in the east and I am whistling away. All night I am thinking about not having the right crash HELMET rating but am thinking I will borrow one from somebody if need be.
I decide at the last minute to invite my 5 year old grandson along and show him what grandpa does to waste his time and money.
He is excited and we get to the track and it is a real cluster puck.
Whoever laid that event out should be shot in A$$ with a cannon.
Then entry lanes cross the pit lanes and it is a major traffic jam of guys running open headers and fouling plugs while these idiots try and direct traffic that isn't moving. (I felt sorry for the racers)
I decide to enter the show and shine and maybe sneak down the track during time trials. ( they let us do that there at the VW bug in)
They don't have enough spaces for all the classifications so people are parked wherever they can find there friends ignoring the well posted signs.
Only one other L even seen the whole day. A white one with custom paint. I had to park in a completely different area away from the trucks cause it was full of some old 50's pickups.
My grandson is a cool little midget and we get his sunscreen on and raise my hood and off we go to look at the cars. He seems interested and I am encourged. First consession stand we come to I get him a hot giant pretzel and some gatorade and he is one happy camper.
We go over to the bleachers to have a seat and watch. It is a nice track on the side of the mountains with a great view.
Well, the noise is to loud for him when the are doing there burnouts so we move down. He ain't liking the noise and I am trying to splain him how the christmass tree works (couldn't get past the christmass part) I think he got the general idea but it was like a million questions and I am checking out this nock down gorgeous lady in a just right tight tee shirt so it's all going in one ear and out the other.
We go back to looking at cars which he seems to like better. Like I said not one other L out there and never saw one go down the track ether. Ponie cars out the kazooo but no L's
A couple laps up and down the tarmac to fill out the judging card and turn it in for my cheesy plastic license plate advertising the dealer that sponsered the event.
I get in this heavy conversation with a vender who thinks he knows everthing about my truck and how I should spend my money with him. "NOT"
Well, junior is worn out and clouds are building and they are rushing things to get there runs in before the sky opens up.
Luke is pretty happy when I suggest we leave so rather than push him into something he doesn't want to do. I figure I will give him a break and we will try it again in a year or so. Kind of ease him into it. I would love to have him for a little race buddy. I got him a little hot wheel car and he was digging on that.
Anyway, the day wasn't a total loss. I guess I will consider it a investment in the future and now I know what a joke fun ford days in denver are about. Was really hoping to hook up with some L brothers.
Sorry guys No time slips from EZGZ today.

Nice story, shame things did not turn out the way you wanted.
At least you guys have a Fun Ford event, here in Albuquerque no such luck, The Lightning guys down here are trying to plan a trip the the Phoenix FFW at the end of the year. If you are intrested would be great to have you join us.
On another note we do have a pretty active bunch of Lightning owners here, we can get as much as 7 or 8 trucks at the local strip sometimes.

Hey thanks for the invite. Thats a long way but will have to wait and see. My son is comming to stay a week. He is 27 and lives in Maui. Don't have the dates nailed down but was saving my main vacation for that.
Yeah, its not called fun ford weekend.
They call it Phill Long Ford event or something.
Several locals told me how great it was but I guess we weren't on the same page.
I thought for sure I would see someone I new and maybe get a chance to get in a run or two while they watched Luke.
But I think things turned out well enough. Had some quality time with Luke and got him food and a toy. That's mostly what they remember. He will come around, it just takes time. Next time we will plan better and bring his Dad and Brother. That will free me up to play.

Good point about not breaking anything. The tunes and the bassani sure sounded sweet the 140 mile trip.
Pirelleis Zero tires are sure noisey on concrete interstate highways.
