Question Metco 4lb single pulley hub

I just purchased a Metco 4lb single pieice crank pulley from JDM. They did not send me any instructions on the removal / install. Does anyone know a) how to use that darn torque converter locking tool and b) what the torque specs are for the new pulley on the 3 allen bolts? I wanted to put this on this weekend on my 04 lightning but, w/o instructions, i don't want to damage anything or over-torque the new pulley.
Thanks to anyone that can help me.
Ken in Atlanta, GA.

Ken,

First welcome the site.

Second, please use the search function.

Third, please fill out your location in your profile so other people in the same city as you can assist you with your “newbie” problem.

JDM and likely PSP and JL and others have instructions on the web that include the details of how to lock the motor. No matter what pulley you but the motor locking is the same... The important thing is to remember to REMOVE THE LOCK

Try searching here for "jdm and wayback" A few weeks ago some one complained that they couldnt find the pulley instructions on JDMs new site - I used the "wayback machine " to pull up a link off the old site...

From the JDM Metco lower pulley kit installation instructions.

Torque converter locking tool.
"From below the truck remove the torque converter inspection plate (13mm).
Install the engine stop strap by bolting it on one side with a torque converter inspection plate bolt and at the other, to the torque converter itself. This will keep the engine from spinning during installation.
Remove a torque converter bolt (9/16) by checking the length of the engine stop strap, you can choose which torque converter bolt to remove.
To align the bolts for the engine stop strap, turn the engine using a 14 mm allen head socket on the lower blower pulley spindle (at the front of the engine) until the remove torque converter bolt is the correct distance from the inspection cover bolt.
WARNING: DO NOT forget to remove the engine stop strap before starting."

3 pulley allen head bolt torque specs.
"Clean the balancer where the hub will be installed and then fit the pulley assembly (it may be a little snug) install the supplied bolts with rib washers and apply blue lock tight. Torque the bolts to 35ft/lbs."

Hope this helps.

Thanks!!!

All,
Thanks for such a quick response. I am "brand new" to this forum and for everyone to respond so quickly is my appreciated. I will fill out my my profile as Ayrton says. Mike, Txoutlaw, and Doug - I appreciate you posting the instructions - i will be sure to remove the lock. Doug, I was not familiar with the "wayback function". The 1st thing I did was go to the JDM site and their instructions for the pulley install was a "coming soon" page. Guess I looked at the newest site.

Thanks again guys.

Yea, you don't want your lock to end up looking like mine. It started out looking like this

Ended up like this

It took me nearly two hours to dig that little fkr out of there. Ended up having to grind the converter bolt head off with a dremel.
Like Forrest said, Stupid is as Stupid does....

One more thing kgalight04sb. Since you have an 04 Lightning, I don't believe you will have a retaining ring as listed in step 9 of the PSP instructions. You will know if you do as soon as you get the stock pulley removed. If it is there then follow step 9 of the PSP instructions, if it isn't go directly to step 10. Your going to love the new added power! Make sure you post back and let us know how it went. Good luck.

Ayrton - i'm south of atlanta in Stockbridge/McDonough area.

rainman15 - ouch!! that looks ugly - thanks for the advice.

Txoutlaw - thanks for the added advice.
I just went and got the blue loctite and I'm off to the adventure. I'll post back shortly with the results. I had an '01 with just a superchip plug-in and a K&N and it was great, i can't imagine this one with the pulley and the new program. I got a race program and a SCT from JDM, already re-programmed the computer (the easy part) now have to bolt on the raw HP to get it going - will check back with u guys in about an hour or so (i hope).

Thanks again.

One more thing - it all went smooth, EXCEPT for the blower belt. What should be the easiest part of the mod is the most difficult. JDM sent me a gates belt K080670, its a tad longer than the OEM, I cannot get it to go on. The instructions say that the OEM belt might work, but it is shorter than the Gates that JDM sent. Any tricks on this???? I can't beleive that I can't get the belt on, what an embarrassing statement!

Ayrton - i'm a member of SVTOA from my previous '01, just been without my SVT for about 7 months when i sold my '01. I plan to get back involved with events and members this summer - thanks for the info.

l-menace - yes, i purchased the Superchips SCT programmer and the pulley from JDM at the same time. They programmed a race program for the 4lb as well as a must have K&N.

Thanks!
