Uh Oh! Accidental Neutral-drop!

Yesterday, my brother was washing his Lightning while I was about to go run some errands. So I jump in my Lightning and decide to show off for him. The plan was to jump on the gas from a dead stop in front of the house and spin the tires all the way down the street. Well as I backed out of the driveway, I put it in "D" (drive) to begin the show. I thought I waited long enough for it to shift from reverse to drive. The truck came to a stop, I put it in "D", waited about 2-3 seconds, and then hammered it. BOOM then spin is what happenned. This isn't the first time I realized that these trucks need a L-O-N-G time to engage into drive. My brother's L is the same way. Could I have done any damage this one time and does anyone else have a slow responding tranny like me....it's an 03 so I don't know if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Hmmm, mine engages almost instantly. And no, I don`t think you caused any damage.

i noticed mine has a delay also going from R to D when i'm backing out my driveway, and if i step on the gas too soon it thumps into gear and jerks the whole truck. i didn't know if it was an effect of the FTVB, or my chip, or what

Dont do it again, hahaha, im sure your tranny is fine, just dont make a habit of it. also, if it takes you 2-3 sec for it to shift, something is wrong. unless u mean 2-3 ms.

When I was running the tree at JDM day at E-town last year one of the L owners w/o much racing experience did a nuetral drop off the line.
It was the weirdest thing. you heard the motor rev up then BAM , the tranny engaged. He ended up spinning the wheels till about the 330 mark and ran a 16 second pass.

Needless to say I had a little chat with him when he went to go again.

It did not seem to do any damage, but I wouldn't make a habit out of it.

As said you should be fine Bro, you made a little bad mistake
thats all . Mine seems to go right in, I'll have to double check tomorrow.

Hey everyone,
Did you ever see those HUGE burnouts up in the mountains at the bottom or middle of a hill ???
Well me being a City Folk and all; when I first saw them many many years ago, I could never figure out how the hell some POS 10 ton tug boat could do such a thing Had me baffled for years, then I asked one of the Hill Billy's and they explained:

you stop at the top of a Hill, put the car in Neutral and roll down the hill backwards. When you get it up to @50 MPH (rolling backwards in Neutral), you throw it in Drive and Floor It

They don't make Tranny's like they use to.............

I got a 03 and it shifts into gear from neutral no problem and very quick within a second if that, no 2 – 3 seconds…

I don't have an FTVB yet, so that is stock.

Thank you all for your feedback. I guess I just need to be more careful now that I know how long it takes for it to engage. Thanks again all
