Intercooler Fliud explosion?

I was driving and here a poping sound of some sort (very quiet pop) so I pull over and open the hood (prolly been a couple days since I opend it) and there is White liquid stains EVERYwhere on the left side of the engine bay and a pool of intercooler fliud sitting on the fluid resavoir. It was late and I had to get home so I drome home slow. The next morning I wake up and look at the fluid level and it is above the cool level line (Way above it) thats after it blows out.

My question is should I Drain some out to the cool level and was there any damage done by this? I think the cap must of slightly lifted and it just shot out or something.

try draining some out, there is a pet**** on the heat exchanger, the cap has a vent in it to allow extra to drain out if too much is added, did you just recently fill it up or change it?

Before you do anything check and make sure the intercooler pump is working.

Start her up, let it run for a minute and see if it is running. You can tell it is running if you look on the pass side of the resevour.

Hey don, I started it up and looked at passenger side of intercooler tank and nothing was happening that i could notice? what am i looking for? the fluid level is all the way at the base of the black top.

Edit: also sounds like alot of chatter is coming from the supercharger snout or upper pulley.

Remember, guys, we are not talking about a radiator here (well, we are, but you know what I mean).

If the fluid got hot enough to boil, there is a serious problem somewhere!

you should see the fluid bubling in the passenger side of the resevour. Sounds like you might have blown a fuse to the intercooler pump. If you look in the fuse panel under the hood(drivers side) there is one of those maxi fuses for the intercooler pump. They are hard to find, but the dealer should have one.

does the truck feel sluggish?? If the intercooler pump isn't working the computer will take timing out and make it drive like crap.

What year truck is it. If it was involved int he cooler recall (99-2000) if the i/c was leaking , especially if the pump isn't circulating, i would immagine that heat would enter the i/c alot easier and is probably boiling the **** out of the fluid creating excessive pressure.

If not, I would have to say it would have been pretting warm out and you would have to have driven a somewhat lengty time.......20 minutes at least for that to boil over.

Good luck

Been there, your pump has simpley stopped working causing the fluid to boil and the heat exchanging is releasing the excessive pressure threw the safety valve (the popping noise). Mine was simpley a wire harness that operates the intercooler pump was sitting on my driver's side header and eventially burnt threw. Follow the wires from the pump back and see if you can see any wire damage, if not you need a fuse as stated above or a new intercooler pump. Good Luck

Since my truck is 3 floors below me and I am to lazy to go down to the garage. I am not sure exactlly which on it is, but it is one of them square ones in the back.

It should be in the owners manual.

Also look under the bumper and make sure the conector to the pump is actually plugged in.

I was just dataloging with my predator because i read somewhere on nloc that there is a IAC2 that takes temps after the intercooler.

So I start the truck up and predator says 70 degree IAC and 80 Degree IAC2
after driving for 3minutes! its at 150 degrees!!!!! so IAC is at 72 still (overhead console says 70 degree day) and IAC2 is reading 150 degrees.

I must be losing alot of power there. need to get this fixed.
