Hemi ??
Well, I had an opportunity to run a Ram 1500 shortbed regular cab with the "over-marketed I'm sick of hearing about it" Hemi.
Guy pulls along side me at a red light and does the foot-on-brake-and-gas lurch a few times. I gave a slight nod and waited for the light to turn green.
Well, when it changed he was on the gas big time. I almost laughed because he didn't even break traction.
I gently rolled into it and after 20 MPH or so I nailed it good... Let's just say 2nd gear wasn't really necessary, but was great fun !!
If those things were to dyno 275 at the rear wheels I'd be surprised. I'm stock (except for the JLP cold air kit) and I left him so bad it wasn't even a race.
I love my L !!! (even after the gas station)

You have to admit, it's a great marketing gimmick. You have all these folks thinking the "hemi" of today is like the hemi of the 60s, and it just ain't so. If you believe the hype, you'd think it's faster than the SRT10!

Well, it is an old style pushrod engine that gets a little better than 1 HP per cubic inch on todays poopy gas...
The original long block hemi was something like 800 or 900 pounds. It pulled them old 1956 300B two speed automatics pretty good in them days.
By those standards our L with its overhead cams, SC and port injection are like hybrid racing engines by comparison. Just think how some of you punish them. Pretty amazing. Then we complain if we here a little ticking noise or get less than 10MPG.
I wish I could upgrade to a 2004 and just tuck it away in a garage somewhere. I know I won't be able to afford a 3rd generation L and only hope that it will still be available in an automatic tranny.
