"skinnys"?

What is the skinniest tire I can put on 16x8 rims? Also what is a good radial tire to go with for the front?

From: Colorado,
If your going for light weight and less resistance wouldn't you be better off going with a narrower rim?

Tire rack has a good spec sheet for tires and rims.

I looked for rims for quite a while and all I could come up with is the 16X8 American racing rims. Honestly I think that the bogarts are a total waste of money for me. I figure going to this size should shave a little weight and should match my American Racing rears alot better than stock.

From: Colorado,
I looked a little on this spec sheet

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...odel=LTX+M%2FS

It appears your biggest problem is going to get a low enough profile.

Our stock tires are about 28 1/2 inches tall

a 245/75/16 would fit a 8" wheel but would be 30" tall and raise the front of the truck.

I am sure somebody makes something in a 60 series or something.

Seems like the easy choices are always in 15"

Good luck with your search.

I know there are people that are running a 16X8 rim in the front. What tire size and choice did they go with is my question.

Thanks

I run 16x10 Eagle Alloy Convo Pros in the back with a hoosier slick and 16x8 Alcoa's in the front, with a 235-75-R16 on the front.

Looking good Josh!!

Actually, those front wheels are a very rare 16x7 wheel that were sold through Ford SVO for a short time. It is very hard to find a 16x7 skinny wheel for our trucks.

Josh, how do you like the truck? What have you done to it? What is your best ET??

oh o.k....I thought you said they were 16x8....oops. So far I like the truck, except for the part of when you spend all day cleaning it and then the next its yellow from all the pollen. LoL. Its pretty much the way I bought it from you right now, havnt had the time to get anything changed over, but hopefully I will soon. I gotta couple lil ideas for it soon. So far my best time with it is a 12.82 with a horrible (at least to me) 1.9 60'ft. Thanks for that info on the wheels, I didnt know they there that size. Sorry BuiltL for the mix up.

For my front "skinnies" I use the 16x7 Weld Draglites with 235/60R16 99V Yokohama Avid tires. It sits at about 27 1/4" high which is 3/4inches shorter than the rears. It was about the closest "skinny" I could find at the time.

Yup, those Weld 16x7 are great, but they are no longer available!

Josh, That truck should easily 60' at 1.85 even at E-town. My best was 1.80 at NED. I would run 15 PSI cold in those and do a pretty big burnout..which would get them to around 16.5 hot. I found that launching at 1000 rpm was the best, if the track is really hooking, then bring it up to 1200!!

I just got off the phone with Discount tire and they are telling me that a 225/60/16 would fit just perfect on a 16X8 rim. And says that the overall height would me 26.6 inches. Why is everyone going with a 235/60/16 which would be they said a height of 27.1 inches. I want the skinniest tire for my skinnys however would the 225/60 look funny with 28 inch tires in back.

The reason I went with what I did was the tire Height. I was trying to get as close as possible to 28". The backs are 28".

The 26s will help keep some air out from under the truck which will improve aero drag and top end stability.
Just a thought.

Now that is an interesting thought. It sounds like it makes sense.

My concern was that with the lower front than rear, it would move the center of gravity towards the front, possibly creating some additional issues with hooking up.
