What's UP with this launch?

Besides the entire rear-end?

http://www.davemilcarek.net/052104/p...1-S4%20015.htm

This was at FFW Etown on my new 555Rs. yysenhimer told me I wasn't heating the tires up enough (I couldn't tell..mirrors were turned in). I still netted some low 1.8x 60s and there is definitely room for improvement.

Setup is Lakewoods with snubbers about 1/4" under the eye of the leaf. Stock shocks, leafs, converter, gears, 2" drop shackles. Launching off idle.

I'm thinking of trimming the passenger side another 1/2" and the driver side another 1/4". It also lifts on the 1-2 shift pretty bad.

Any other suggestions? (other than 58" bars)

Come on..help me out..I don't want to be Rob02 II.

I seem to remember some posts about the Lakewood style bars (Truck Traks, etc.) lifting the rear end at launch, as opposed to the Rancho style (JLP, Caltracs, etc.) which drop it.

It all about your effective "instant center". With a short arm the fulcrum point of the lever is at the front eye of the rear spring. Think about how much weight is fwd of that point!

With a long arm or 4 link the effective *instant center* (or fulcrum point) is somewhere around the front bumper. (it's triangulated. Not a semi simple lever like a slapper bar)

Other than a true 4 link rear suspension, just about the best value for a bolt on...... is a set of long tube lift bars.

Here is mine doing a launch with them. (14mb video zipped) You can see how it just squats. It does the same thing on the 1-2 shift as well.

LAUNCH

Nothing wrong at all with that launch pic. The slapper bars push up on the leafs which pulls down on the axle housing. This increases the space between the tire and wheel well when you launch. They are doing their job..........even though it does look weird.

Truck Traks work great.......but notice that my truck is not squating at all for a 1.6 short time.

Dan,

When you see the video, you'll find that you didn't bring the revs up high enough and it was a little short with hardly any smoke coming out of them.

I think you may be making more out of how the truck looks lifted than you should. Look at the picture again

Now look at this picture of someone else.

Notice where the cone is on the second picture. That is the starting line. Your pic was taken after the initial launch. It's all in the camera angle. Although I am not saying the truck doesn't lift. The bars are working as they should. When I used to run Southside bars on the Mustang, it did the same thing...but those bars worked well enough that they tore holes in my torque boxes.

PS: Your truck looks dirty

All points well taken with the exception of the one about my truck being dirty. Not possible.

OK. Thanks for the replies. My worries are put to rest. You get what you pay for, and what I paid for is what I'm getting. Who can complain?

Thanks, guys.

Body squat is NOT good. Body squat is just a waste of energy. Look at Pro-Stocks on TV next weekend....do you see any body squat? Nope, it just looks cool, but it is not good. You want that energy to transfer as directly as possible to the suspension and thus the tires. My 10 cents anyway Now I know some people are setting their QA1's soft in the rear, but it makes no sense to me.

Prostockers also have wheelie bars. I would think you would want the rear to squat to put just enough weight on the tires so that they won't spin. If the rear lifts then you are taking weight off the azz and it is counterproductive. True too much is not good, but there is a happy medium depending on track conditions.
