Question for those with a FTVB...

I had mine installed about 1 month ago. But the thing is I only notice a hard shift from 2nd to 3rd?

1st to 2nd feels basically stock and 3rd to 4th feels a "bit" stiffer then stock.

Is this normal? I just remember when my chip had the line pressure up the gears hit much harder in every gear.

The last thing I want to do is get it taken out, pay for more oil, labor, shipping etc. So before I even considerd that I thought I would ask if this is normal?

Thanks for any input, J

Not normal compared to how mine feels.

Mine (before convertor) was VERY noticable at all gear changes.

I have the FTVB in my 01 and the 1 - 2 shift is firm but not a bang shift at normal throtle. The faster the throttle is pushed the harder the 1 - 2 shift is. However if you catch it just right in traffic and start to take off and have to back out quick the shift is very hard. hope this help Artie. Its a million times better than the stock setup.

Thats exactly how mine was when I installed it. I then got in contact with Gregg and he sent me out a custom made one which was better than the first but still not a great as everybody says it should be. I don't know what to say i guess different trucks react differently to different parts. WIth the new FTVB now i hardly notice it when driving normal but at WOT it will deffinetly chirp the 1-2

Agree...depends on what your line pressure is set at. But the hole reason to have the FTVB is to NOT have to keep your line pressure uo as to save the life of tranny.

I keep my line pressure in the low end as mine breaks rubber even at the lowest setting.

im gonna grab this one, i went through 4 tranys, im on my 5th , so what was the culprit? i have a 2cR valve body which shifts super nice 1-2, and 2-3 it isnt a harsh shift but verry fast shift, i went through the first 4 tranys because i had the line pressure turned up on my chip, si i would destroy the intermideat clutches.
thankfully there are guys like gregg around because he like a big brother took me on as a project and rebuilt all 4 tranys.
if you want a harder shift, turn you line pressure down and ask gregg to give you a 2cr ans ask for a really good 1-2 hell shim the chit out of it and itll lay 5 foot black marks in second

I am in the same boat, pretty weak (but better than stock) 1-2, hard 2-3, and weak 3-4 shifts. Gregg is making me another VB tweaked on the 1-2 and 3-4 shifts. I get a good chirp outta second with my mods, but stock was very disappointing. I want anyone riding with me to KNOW that there has been wrok done and not just me.

sorry i forgot to mention that i got a 2400 stall which makes it a little looser shift which is why i went with the 2cR in the first place

Well, I guess that all depends on what you think that a "good" shift is.

If you want to "bang" or "break rubber" on a shift, then I have to question whether it is really true performance that you are after. I fail to see how violent or tire-smoking shifts enhance performance. Maybe add some grins and/or bragging rights, but not performance.

The FTVB was one of my first mods. I think that it shifts perfectly. Quick enough to increase performance, but not hard or violent enough to upset the handling. A "bang" shift could very easily cause a spin accelerating out of a hard corner.
