My 02, with stock tires, no adjustments to inflation, on a marginal track in farmville (Sacramento Speedway), on a hot August day, would not spin the tires. Consistent 2.2-ish 60' times. Ran consistent 13.9's at 100. Five in a row to be precise. No more than +/- .1 on ET and less than +/- 1 on trap speed.

My technique was just as decribed above. Foot on brake. Wait for last yellow light. Slight weed-induced delay while brain connects with foot. Then release brake and stomp gas.

I repeatedly achieved exactly the same results with my G-Tech on a local stretch of road in Pasadena (with and without ganja).

Trained monkey stuff.

YMMV.

My first and only time at the track so far, back before I started modding, I ran a 13.9 and the three 13.8's. Stock tires with a drop in K&N, so it was bone stock. The first time I buried it and the tires spun, but then I just started easing into it. Good luck to everyone going to the challenge. I'm going to FFW in Gainsville the 4th, 5th, and 6th of June.

Just wondering... should I take my O/D off? My truck SEEMS faster with it off, but it may just seem that way since the RPMs are higher and the exhaust is louder.

I wish I could offer advice on launching your Lightning, but I have a hard enough time trying to figure out how to launch my '03L correctly. I always launch with the overdrive off, and I the one time I launched with the L in 2nd I couldn't get it to stop smoking the tires. My stock '03 seems a lot faster than what most others are running, becuase I ran an '02 with a 4lb pulley, Accufab throttle body, diablo chip, and a fast air system and he only took me by a car and a half off the line and we were dead even from a roll. I really screwed up my launch of the line when he beat me, and well my rear tires needed to be rotated really bad. This guy with the '02 has time slips showing that the truck ran a 12.8 in the 1/4, so even with all those mods on his truck I was still able to hold my own extremely well with my stock '03. I'm kinda curious what kinda track times my stock L will pull considering the outcome of that race. I honestly think my truck is good for a low 13 sec. run, and I'm not willing to start modding until I know what kinda time it runs stock. All I can say is that my truck burns the tires out like no other even with the rears being set at 28psi. I'll tell you what I've noticed so far is that mashing the pedal down does not yield the best results for me, but gradually pressing down on the throttle seems to keep the wheel spin to a minimum for me.

After reading this, I have to correct my statement above -- while I said that I "stomped" the gas, I almost never just stab it for all it's worth from a dead stop. So my "stomping" is more accurately described as an aggressive push on the throttle (maybe .5-1 sec to full throttle).

I doesnt matter if the OD is on or off. Doesnt make your truck any faster and you wont get going fast enough to shift into OD.
I've run 12.2's@110mph and my truck hasnt shifted in to OD.

Dont count US41's track prep out just yet. I ran some very awesome numbers there with my truck. Ran a 13.27@102mph when my L was stock on F1's with a 1.90 60ft on stock F1's with 32psi in the tires @ US41. The track tends to come around rather quickly when there are allot of cars running back to back.

Dont be timid when it comes to launching your truck. Give the track a chance and try to launch hard. Your never going to run your best times if you ease into the throttle. If your not having any luck after the first 2-3 runs and are spinning the tire at launch, then try leaving easier until you dont spin the tires.

Stage, bring the revs up to about 1000, when you see the last yellow light.........punch it.

See you there,
Jason

There is a Mobil just 2 miles south of the track that has additive free 93 octane with no Ehtanol right from the pump. Also, they sell 110(and I believe 116) in 5 gallon cans at the same station.

Do you happen to know what exit that is?

BTW, the forecast really turned for the better Mid 70's and only partly cloudy

Eric/Mike,

It is Exit 168. There is a gas station to your left at the end of the exit ramp.
I just moved to the new house last weekend and just found out last night that even though my phone # is the same, I can't get DSL now So I am offline at home for now. Give me a call on my cell tonight Eric if you have any questions.

Wonder what Mike has for me

See you guys tomorrow!
