Heavy brake dusting?

I just put on the Power Slot rotors and Hawk pads up front. Just the pads were installed in the rear. There seems to be a lot of dusting on the front with the new rotors. Will the heavy dust problem go away after the new rotors are broken in? It really seems excessive.

Hawk pads give off ALOT of dust.

But they are great at stopping on a dime.

When it stops its time to replace them.

fafl is correct. Dust is a byproduct.

Wait until you exercise them on a road course. Get out the Simple Green and the power washer.

I went with the same pads Rob02 did, the Morse Ceramics from Autozone for under $50.00. They stop great and the dusting is very minimal if any. They are also extremely quiet. Great choice in my book.

I got the truck used. Someone put them on before I got it. I think it may have been to the track once or twice.

For less than $50.00 each axle and a little labor (brake pads are easy to change on these things) it would be worth it to get rid of all the brake dust.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm using the HP Superduty pads instead of the HPK Street/Sport pads. I was under the impression that they don't dust as badly. It's not as bad today as yesterday. I think the new rotors had something to do with the excessive dusting. Now that the pads have seated against the rotors, and transfered some material over to them, it's not nearly as noticeable.

Once you get a layer of pad material transfered, your dusting problems will go away for the most part. I installed these same pads on my son's Mach and they did the same thing.

Hah! You guys call that brake dust?? lol

This is after an Auto X a few weeks ago. I finally was able to detail it today. Took 8 hours to bring it back to showroom shine... :o

Have another event next Sunday, hopefully now that its nice and waxxed it will wash right off instead of needing to be claybar'd off.

Now that my Brakes work again,
Man I Love those Ceramic Pads
I can honestly say I haven't cleaned them since BEFORE Cecil, and that alone was over 500 miles driving in one day. With the factory pads I needed to clean them after maybe 20 miles of driving. I did front and rear for under $100.00 WOO HOO

No squeaks, no dust, stop great, it's all good so far....
