www.karkraft.com... buddy got a used one in the $400's. Or you can pick up one of their Navigator short blocks in the $800's (that's what I did )

all 5.4 blocks are the same. In '02 they went to the the thicker block to cut down on the noise & vibrations... but those will still fit in all year models of Lightnings.

I picked up a new Navigator short block from them (has steel crank), tossed the rods and pistons. I picked up a set of used '00 heads and dropped it (along with a plethora of parts) over at a local machine shop. Have a sweet long block sitting in my garage awaiting transplant.

karckraft emailed me and said you can not use 2v heads on the navi block. Did you change to 4v heads?

Karkraft got back to me and they misunderstood me. A Navi short block can not be used with 2v heads but the bare block is the same and can. I guess the pistons are different from the Navi.

yeah, pistons are flat top... too much compression.

Sounds like a good deal... shipping on the short block for me from Michigan to Texas was only $75.
