Unhappy Increased blower noise after port?

I have noticed an increase in noise from the blower after my porting. Recently read a post on NLOC from someone with a similar "diesel" sound coming from the motor. His blower ended up locking up on him

Anyone else hearing this? Could it be a bad or poorly installed bearing?

My REM ported SC has not made any strange sounds like you described. Just a slight more boost sound which I don't mind.

Mine has a centrifugal supercharger sound to it now. I'm not really worried about it and kinda like it. It definitely has a different sound to it and idle and and WOT, that's for sure.

I read the same thread.

With mine, I hear a little more noise when the boost comes on. This is also at a lower RPM than pre-port. I have a #4 lower / 2.80 upper combo. I'm not worried about it.

Dan, you are running a 4/2 combo on a ported blower with a 2001? How long have you been running this combo? Do you have stock internals? Also, how hard do u drive yours?

Got the port done last month. Yes, I have stock internals. And it's more like a 4/1 combo. Made 3 passes down the 1/4 with it a couple of weeks ago. Other than that, I haven't really made too many WOT runs. Also, I don't drive the truck as a daily driver.

I have a dyno tuning session scheduled for May 13 to check all my #s.

BTW..someone else on this board has the same port job on his '01 and he's running a #6 lower / 2.80 upper on stock internals. Before the port he was making 440-450 RWHP.

I am also running 4L / 2U combo on 02 L and havent not had a problem with it. I havent not been to the dyno yet since I did the install of the ported blower. I also added long tubes with the install so I think I balanced everything out. My block is stock but soon to go built.

Ported blower = more boost
Long Tubes = less boost

The sould of my blower is way louder than before. Sounds like his someone is pulling on a cat's tail and the cat screaming fearusly

I already have the long tubes and high flows too. Mine is a daily driver, so I cant afford to blow up the motor. Maybe I should stay away from the port until I can at least do a built lower end.

4\2 combo here also and got a port about a month ago. Zero problems and it's my daily driver (50miles a day). I am pretty easy on it though. It's been to the 1\8th mile track about 6 times. (best of 8.10 @86)

I have no strange noises at all just a louder whine and whine at lower RPM's.

01svtL,

I would'nt sweat it on a daily driver. The outlet temps are lower and there-for better for the engine.

NOW having said that! *IF* you drive it differently / harder than "normal"? It's not going to matter much either way. In which case you ought to get some sort of NA car/truck.

I drive mine hard I try to limit my WOT to 2-3 a week but it gets tough for a 18 year old to resist.

mine has noise, growling or grinding noise at idle only. it's done that since the day it was installed, never did it before porting. I assume that my bearings and such were removed for the stripping/polishing job, I don't believe that they do this on a standard port job, there would be no reason that I can think of to do this when just porting the case.

I haven't sent it back yet because for one, it's my daily driver, and two, it's prolly gonna ruin the paint, and three, it's just irritating and a pain in the *** that it needs to be done at all.

I was told to check the boost bypass, but it doesn't appear to have any positive effect on the noise regardless of it's position.

check your oil and see if it looks ok (level and condition), mine appears to have metal in it.

BTW, i'm running a 6lb lower and stock upper.

and as for the guy on nloc, assuming I'm reading the correct thread, his blower was never ported, he just had a fluke failure.

later,
chris
