Has anyone else had their Block heater plug pop off?
Has anyone else had their Block heater plug pop off?
While driving I decided to give it some gas and then had to let off quickly because the back end was coming out from under me. SO I guess the added pressure from me letting off so quickly popped the plug off. I tried tightening it but that didn’t work so I am off to buy a new one. Just curious as to if this happened to anyone else in their L?
HI!... I've had one block heater plug pop out on me. It was fixed under warrenty by my dealer. A few months ago the new block heater had a short in it and it melted a hole through the copper tubing on the back side of the plug causing a leak. This time I installed a regular frost plug. No problems now.
Freeze plugs are usually pressed in.
If you mess one up in a spot difficult to get at they also have rubber style expansion plugs with a nut you can tighten.

Ya this is basically pressed in with a sort of butterfly nut that when tightend expands and holds on to the block.
Mine only came out part way but when trying to fix it I tightend the nut to much and it broke and then wooosh.. All the coolant came out. "oops" LOL
SO lke I said today I went to the store and picked up a new one but dont have much time to put it in so I will do so in a couple of days.

If I am not mistaken all blocks have the potential of having them. If you dont have the plug then yours is capped with a stopper or plug if you will. It is located near your oil filter only higher up. You should see a round plug on the block. Carefull when you remove it because there will be a lot of coolant pouring out. So I guess you will have to flush all the coolant out prior. You can go to an autoparts store and pick up a block heater... it will have the round part that goes into your block along with the long plug for power. It is very easy to do. You basically puch it in till its tight against the block then there is a screw you tighten to keep it in place.
I decided to go out and do it now and it was a snap.
