well here is my personal experience so take it for what its worth...

im 18, bought the L 3 weeks after graduation and only put down 2k...i financed $30,000 at 6.9% on a co-signed loan with my dad. i was paying 620 a month...my insurance is roughy 380-390 a month... i work full time for a construction company and make $500/week salary bring home 385 after taxes and benfits.

well work has me stuck commuting 65 miles one way getting 14 mpg at most if i can not play around...but so early in the morning on open roads its hard not to. whoever said they pay $200 month for gas is oblivious...or they drive nowhere. i am paying $120-$160 week for gas!!!! anyway after 9 months of paying around $1200 a month to drive my truck i decided somethign had to be done because that only left me $400 a month to pay for the cell, spending money and trying to bank a little savings.

last night i had to go and refinace my truck which is gonna give me an extra $110 a month because my payments got much smaller. i am also getting a side job to make some extra $BANK$ because i turn 19 in a month and want to move out in 2 years. yes there are some kids who get a decent savings built up and can slap down a large down payment but please dont fool yourselves...i really thought the truck was gone last month because i was beyond broke. i have not gone to the bank to withdraw money in weeks just to keep myself from spending...all my spending happens at the gas pump!!!!

as much as i love my truck i somewhat wish i had gotten something cheaper...bought a house and used it as an investment to be able to have the "toys" later in life. but i will make do, and support myself. my sister was a failure and put my parents in debt on more than one occasion so i fear even asking them for $5 to run up to the store for something.

i just wanna share my experience cuz i am 18 and i have been where you guys may think you can go...be very careful too...just cuz you can afford the truck doesnt mean you can afford a brand new motor when your rods snap and its not under warranty. got a 20 year old friend making payments on a truck he only had for 26 days before the motor let go and the truck has been at Ford for almost 2 months now...but he still has to make payments..and pay for a motor.

damn, thats on hefty insurance payment... Im 22 and have a speeding ticket that I didnt remove (15+ over even) and Im only paying 240 a month for full coverage.... with lower coverage it went down to 175 a month

That speeding ticket is only 1 of 5 I have recieved in the last 5 years.... I took the class to get the points off my DL for the others...but I can only do that one more time...so I figured I would save it for something worse than the 15+ over

Yea, but his truck is 3 yrs newer & he's still almost 4 yrs. younger that can make a big differance. not sure but geography can play a part in your rate differances also.

I have always figured FLorida insurance to be higher, seeing as we have so many old poeple and crappy drivers in general here. My insurance only went up 5 or 10 bucks a month from the 99 xlt I did have in hs... same coverage, and the L is a year newer
