I Am A ..........moron

So I decided to take the NX wet kit that is on my L and was on there when I bought. It's basically brand new and was only used a few times but I don't want to spray so I decided to get take it off and sale it for some other mods. Well I take everything off...ya know no bigie an hour job at the most. Then I get to the line that is taped into the fuel rail and I'm like damn I'm going to need to cap it off now once I take the line off, I look for a bolt and find one, I figure it should work untill I get a cap tomorrow (all part stores all closed) So I'm putting the bolt on and it gets tight, I tighten it a little more, start her up to check and it spraying out a little so I shut it down, tighten a little more and I feel like the bolt striped....it didn't, it broke clean off, now part of the bolt is stuck in there....&*E##*_*_*#$#@$! ...I say to myself. So I start it up to see if it will leak and it does just a tiny tiny bit. Tomorrow I will be buying some new tools. A DAMN EZ out kit. I should have just left the line to the fuel solenoid and got a cap tomorrow but at the time I wasn't thinking. Damn I am a moron... U LIVE AND LEARN...So I know there are some people out there that have screw something up or messed up something while working on ther L or even another vehicle, lets her em...LOL

Welding sealed aluminum tanks can have an explosive side effect.

oh man...if i told all my stories people would probably think i'm nuts for working on my own vehicles

I think by the time i get done buying all the extra parts that i break plus the new tools i need it usually costs me more to do things myself than to take it to a shop... but that's okay cause i'd still rather do it myself...best way to learn about the vehicles!

a few examples for me are while dropping the gas tank on my grand cherokee i didn't see a plastic fuel line that was still connected... i can't even begin to explain how sad my face looked when i heard that snap and smelled the gas Of course this was at my parents house while i was in college and my school was 2 hours away....took me a week to get the new fuel line.

Another time i was running late trying to finish up in the morning before going to work and broke the bolt holding my trackbar to my axle... ahh...good times good times lol

I haven't caused any damage to the L yet and i'm gonna try to keep it that way!

What, only the dumb things I did today?
When I was younger, my dad had a mechanics pit in our old garage. A friend wanted to pull the motor on his '64 Mustang, so he bought it by one night, we get the motor out in a couple of hours & call it quits around midnight. Neither one of us thought to cap off the fuel line and overnight the entire tank drained into the pit. When I got up the next morning to go to school, the garage reeked of gas, luckily, garage door openers hadn't been invented yet! I dread to think of what just one spark would have done.......

I did the same thing with the second to last one on the drivers side. Got in a hurry, always the wrong thing to do when you are working in a tight spot.

It really doesn't take much to strip the aluminum, does it? I used a few washers to hold my coilpack in place.

I know our frames are "waxed" from the factory, but to my knowledge the undercoating is not Ford installed. I know that I sure don't have any.

The fuel line that goes into the fuel rail doesn't have to be capped off when you take it off. There's a valve in the end of the fuel rail that prevents fuel from coming out.
Just unscrew the line & you'll see what I'm talking about. It looks like a tire valve.

I'm guessing that you put the bolt into the end of the NX kit fuel line? Really couldn't make that out.
