Question Street Scene Smooth Steps????

Just wanting to know from anyone that has used them or has them, what is the fit and finish like? I am a little nervous about smoothing my own and thought about going this route. Thanks.

I have them on my truck...... The guy that did my paintwork said they wern't in the greatest shape when he got them..... I know he did alot of work to them like sanding and stuff... but they look great now........
he said the fit and finish is like any aftermarket body work.... it usually needs work before it goes on the vehicle.

Thumbs down street scene

hope they fit better than their speed grills. Nice product, but fit was horrible.

Are you kidding me...double-sided tape to hold them on??? I'd go with the smoothed factory pieces. At least you know they'll still be on the truck when you get to where you're going!

I am gonna sand mine a little with 400 grit, and bondo the raised parts of the steps. Then when I get the bondo smoothed, I will fiberglass resin the entire step to make it smooth without the casting bumps on them now. Then sand the entire step by hand, and fill prime it. Then sand some more and prep for the paint guys. They will probably sand and fill prime again, and shoot color on them. After a good coat of clear, and a couple of days to let the paint gas and set, I will put them on and wait as couple of weeks before I wash and wax them. That is about it. I will avoid using power sanders or d-a's to keep from getting low spots.

I have been impressed with SS products and would buy another in a heart beat. Pretty much anything they sale is held on by double sided tape or screws. When I had my old truck, I put a Street Scene body kit on it. I only put on the side skirts with just the double sided tape to do a test fit. I didn't want to drill until I was sure they fit good, which they did. Anyways, before I drilled, I drove down my 1/2 mile gravel driveway, 30 miles to work on a mix of bumpy backroads and 75MPH on the interstate, onto a construction site, and did the same thing coming home. When I tried to pull one off after all that I really struggled with it. Fact is, that double sided tape does the job

eposey,

I'm sure that the tape does a decent job (and I've even used it on a few things before) but it seems that since there is already a means to mount them (like the holes for the clips on the stock pieces) that Street Scene would have gone the extra mile and used that method. I'm not adamantly opposed to their stuff as I've got their Speed Grills on my truck but it certainly wasn't an out of the box fit (as previously mentioned) and their clips for the grills just plain bite!

Ya those clips are a PIA I used zip ties on my grilles.

I have never removed the stock steps so I didn't know what held them on. I would think that the double sided tape would work just fine though. Probably what makes these steps so inexpensive.
