2# Lower need a chip?

I have a 2003 L that is currently stock with a K&N panel air filter. I was looking for a little more performance, but I really don't want to do anything that will void my warranty.

The L is my daily driver and I put a LOT of miles on... about 30,000 a year. I currently have 11,000. Anyway, I've done some searches and see mixed thoughts on whether a 2# lower requires a chip.

I want to keep my warranty, and that is why I would prefer not to install a chip because I've heard dealers can tell if the computer was flashed or changed from stock. I figure I can pull the 2# pulley off if I need warranty work done, and there would be no indication I had done anything.

I also tow my car trailer with my truck, so I want to keep reliability. I live in the mountains at 9500 ft, but work in Denver at 5500 ft and would just like the extra power.

Would a 2# lower without a chip be OK, especially if I tow at lower elevations too?

Thanks,
Greg

Cool

#2 lower only = no problems at all even at those altitudes.

I know at 5000 - 9500 feet I would be fine as my truck is very rich up here!... but what about towing my 5000 lb car trailer at sea level with the 2# lower?

Any recommendations on whose 2# lower to get?

Thanks for your replies!

Whenever I stomp on it while driving home I get plenty of black smoke out the pipes. It's really rich. I have a friend with a dyno, and I have seen lightnings dyno'd there, and they are all overly rich. I might make a pull this weekend to get a baseline and A/F ratios.

thanks,
Greg

A 2# pulley won't need a reburn. Many guys have run a 4# without a chip. It never hurts to dyno and check the A/F though!
