Need some Tips... Looking to buy an 04 Sonice Blue
Hello all, I am looking to pick up an 04 Sonic Blue and need some advice.
A few dealers around here in MASS have one, but some have a bedlinner, which I don't want, and I don't want to deal with removing it.
My questions are... One dealer has aggreed to sell at X-price, would they still be willing to sell it at that price if I ordered one, or are they giving me that price because it's the truck on the lot?
Also what are the chances of getting an 04 for 29K even? How long do trucks usually take when they are ordered?
Thanks for the help!

My understanding from the dealer I used (Portsmouth Ford in New Hampshire) is you cannot order Lightning’s. The dealer gets an allocation of Lightning’s through out the year, they have no choice in colors and get what they get. I don’t know if that is true about options, which is only two, soft cover and bed liner.
So, your best bet is if you can find a sonic blue Lightning, either an 03 or 04 is to buy it regardless if it has the bed liner or not. If it comes with a bed liner see if the dealer will take it out and give you some credit for it since they can be used in any flareside bed F150, and if not you can take it out and try to sale it yourself…

One thing to watch for is that some lots has yahoos that have scuffed the lower front bumper/chin. I saw at least 3 when looking for mine.
Otherwise just look for the usual stuff like door dings, missing parts, scuffs, ect...
Might wanna feel them out for how "mod friendly" they are too.

I ordered my 03 Sonic Blue at this exact same time last year. I would think you can still order them but maybe not. There are dealers selling new 03's at $26,500 but haven't seen any blue ones. There was also a post of an 04 at $26,300. but again wasn't a Sonic Blue.
Good luck!

I work in the Fleet Department for an SVT dealer. Each dealer gets an allocation of SVT product. Example, my allocation of L's this year was 5. I only have one left. I had this one pre sold on an order, but the customer backed out at the last minute.
I do get to choose what color and options I want when ordering my vehicles. I get a call from the Ford rep and they tell me how many I have allocation for. Then I decide what I want color wise. The only way I can place an order for one is if I have allocation. If someone wanted to order one from me now, I wouldn't ba able to because I'm out of allocation. I think the order bank has shut down on Lightnings. I was talking to the Fleet Manager a couple of weeks ago, and he said they were stopping production on the Heritage models early in the year. Not sure if this is accurate, just what I was told.
If the unit you saw was one that has been sitting on the lot for more than 90 days, the dealer may decide to sell it cheaper because he's paying flooring on it. If that's the case, they probably wouldn't sell for the same price on an order, if they can even order one now.
Hope this helps.

Look for paint drips on the front corners of the hood, rear lower corners of both doors, and lower corners of the tailgate. Look from the back if the bed is aligned with the cab side to side. Look how the lower body moulding matches up side to side where the rear cab piece meets the front bed piece. I saw many paint drips and many of the body alignment problems.
Hey John long time no talk bud
Did you sell your truck or looking to trade her in??
If you sold yours and am looking for a new lightning send me a e-mail. I have a awesome Lightning with a built engine, trans, headers, KB, expy console, slicks, Cervini hood, Lund roll pan, and everything for not much more than a new lightning. It is would be a awesome truck for you and needs nothing.

I bought my 03' from Framingham Ford, but have been so pleased with the Service at Bonnell that I have referred everyone there (they also sponsor some SVT events).
There is a Ford dealer website that lets you browse local dealers inventory. When I was ready to buy, I saw who had what and worked the best deal...Framingham was an hour ride for me in ideal traffic.
Good Luck,
Lew

one word of advise is to watch certain dealerships that mark the price of an L up because of they are limited. When shopping for my L, I went to 128 ford in North Reading, MA. They were selling new L's for 38k!!! yes 38k and they would not budge at all. I laughed as I walked off the lot. It would be obvious to anyone that this is not the place to buy. I shopped around for a month and found an excellent deal. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!
