Ok I`m a little new to this, but just what are they talking about when I hear someone talk about detanation?

Helix bore spacer? LMFAO!

That ranks right up there with plasma booster and the M166

Detonation is the #1 most important thing you need to know if you are going to mod your truck at all. Nearly every severe engine failure on a Lightning (or any supercharged engine for that matter) is caused by detonation.

Prime causes:

1) too much timing
2) too low octane
3) too lean
4) too much boost for a given timing/octane/air-fuel

Buying a mail-order chip is like playing russian roulette.

Rather then talking ***** why don't you guys help him out.

Kane, very eye catching truck I must say. Detonation(sp?) is the the cylinder firing before the piston reaches top dead center. That is what cause all the bent and broken rods. Get a nice safe tune and you will be safe. Best of luck with your truck. -Mat-

Talking ***** is easier, with your amount of posts one would think you have figured out that the majority of the posts here involve talking *****. Rarely do problems actually get solved, but hey thanks anways.

NOT QUITE!

SVT F150:

Yuo have no idea what you're talking about. The phenomenon you described is actually "ignition timing advance", NOT, and I repeat NOT, "detonation".

If you really believe that detonation is "the cylinder firing before TDC", you need to send your chip back to your tuner (or get a chip) and have it burned to cause the ignition to fire at TDC (or after that, I suppose). Install that chip, and WELCOME TO THE LIGHTNING 17-SECOND CLUB!

Every Lightning on the road (with the possible exception of yours) fires WAAAY before the piston reaches TDC.

I could tell you what detonation really is, but you'll learn it better and remember it longer if forced to research it yourself.

I am going by what I have been told by quite a few "reliable sources" but believe me I have been known to be wrong before. I am man enough to admit it, if that is the case. Sorry if I have been misinformed. -Mat-

To each his own, I personally am not a fan but that is ok. I dislike all the flashy trucks on this site with the exception of maybe one or two. It is all good though. I for one put money to go fast parts, others don't. Why I don't know. -Mat-
