Trans ?
Which line is the return line? Is their rubber hose anywhere along that line I can cut into and add an inline filter with hose clamps?

there are rubber hoses up near the trans cooler.

The return on them is the one going to the rear cooler fittings. If you use the inline filter, make sure you replace the element at least every 30K miles.
