Predator ?

Let me first say Stupid Question to follow ! Will the predator do a tune with the ability to reburn to stock settings without leaving any detectable trace behind ?

A Ford dealer can only see when the last "reflash" was performed, and if they do not have a record of doing it, they can assume it was done by "other means", i.e. Predator.

I have a Predator in my Cobra. The issue of detection has been discussed many times over at Modularfords.com. Diablosport says that a dealer cannot detect the use of a Predator if the factory tune has been restored.

Also, regarding the date of the last reflash with a Predator, there is no date and time setting in the Predator. So it couldn't add a time stamp when used.

Unless the time stamp is done by the truck PCM.

I don't recall ever seeing a battery (backup source of power to maintain what would have to be factory presets of date/time as it would have no other to get that data) in any of my PCM's that I've had apart...and returned to stock of course without ever removing the protective coating.

There is something called an EPROM that does not require batt backup. Have you ever noticed the digi odometer zeroing out after changing a battery???

Eprom
Definition: [n] (computer science) a read-only memory chip that can be erased by ultraviolet light and programmed again with new data

Synonyms: erasable programmable read-only memory

See Also: fixed storage, read-only memory, read-only storage, ROM

?

Okay, now I've actually read about it too. That would store the date and time allright but something that is "aware" of current date and has to "tell" it that information. The Predator has been eliminated as one source and like I said nothing in the PCM carries that info either.

I think if you could have a device that digitally measures time and dates accurately without a battery or any other power source you could make a couple $$ in the watch aftermarket.

I've never had the odometer apart to comment on it's backup. Have you?

Most PROM's now are EEPROM's. No ultraviolet light needed to reflash or erase. A battery of some type would be needed to keep time.
