Can the supposed hp increase from an open airkit be witnessed on a dyno since airflow is minimized (other than a fan blowing onto the front of the truck during the pull)? In other words, are the airkit gains dyno-proven? Will I personally see a gain on the dyno by switching out my modded stock box to an open filter?

2701 people read this post
and 33 are still trying to figure out if a stock box or filter is better.

Jerry, listen to Sal
YOU NEED AN AFTERMARKET FILTER
Nothing Better than Sals or JLP's

I am also concerned about smoothness of air, AND TEMP of Air,
thats why you want a Box, and air coming from numerous places.
My Box has open top for idle and slow traffic air inlet, OEM Fender inlet for movement and cooler air, and the main 3" inlet being feed the coolest air yet, straight from the front of the vehicle.
I originally had a flexible line but later switched to smooth Stainless (hard tubing) to feed it the smoothest air possible.
Used min turns also.

NO IT DOESN'T HIT THE TIRE, NOT ONCE

Back hole (hard to see) gets connected to OEM fender inlet

It's just what the Doc ordered

Sal's (PSP) box works very simular and is an excellent choice

I bought Sal's Fast Air. I wish I could say I could feel the difference but I can't. I have one hose from the box to the fender cutout (only about three inches long) and the other hose connected to the air scoop going to the bottom of the air box. On the other tube on the air scoop I split it and ran hoses to cool my brakes. I forgot how good the supercharger sounds. Even though I don't really think the aftermarket filters let you make any more power (at least not around 435-450 H/P like my truck) I'm going to run one anyway.
