stupid question about engine blueprint
Hi all,
I am having an engine built for my L....
I have heard all about "balance and blueprint"
is the blueprint something on paper, something i can see
thanks

To blue print an engine is extremely time consuming. Every single
tolerance, distance, clearance, weight, volume, etc. is machined/fitted to an axact specification. The specifications vary depending on what purpose the engine will be used for. For instance, if you're running in a NHRA stock class, you have to blueprint to stock factory specs.
What you're actually trying to accomplish is to get every single cylinder to put out exactly the same amount of power as all of the other cylinders. That way no one single cylinder is fighting another, or holding the other 7 back a little.
Their are no blueprint sheets like when you build a house.
Hope this helps,

like justin said,
the process of blueprinting an engine involves measuring/weighing/checking all of the parts and their relationship (clearances) to other parts to make sure that each and every little part is correctly machined and identical to the others.

Only if you *PAY* big bucks to have it done. Generally only full on race motors are fully "blueprinted".
Most guys/shops just check the highlights like piston to wall, rings, and main bearing clearances. Then they'll balance everything.
