Apten is on!

I decided to do it at work so the warranty police (wife) would not know. I though it would be no big deal to do it without an air ratchet. Boy was I wrong! It took me an hour and a half. The rear bolts on the upper intake and the blower were a pain. I also forgot to bring any wobble sockets or a universal joint. If you are going to do this it would be a piece of cake with air tools and wobble sockets. Less than an hour I would think. Well now I have to be a good boy and no WOT until I get my chip back from Sal.

To help out any one in the future, I found it fairly easy to have put the upper intake and the blower together before putting them in the L.

Nathan,

thanks for the pics

Gator,

I can tell a little already. The boost comes on really fast. I made one WOT run for just a few seconds and I saw 15 lbs on the autometer boost gauge. I used to see 12 lbs. I'm running a stock upper and four pound lower. There as no pinging at all but I don't want to chance it so I will stay out of the go pedal until the chip gets here. The blower noise is really different. It's not just louder it has a better tone. I'm running the stock air box with a 2.5" hole in the bottom wth a hose running down to the opening in the bumper next to the innercooler rad. Sal has always said anything over 12 lbs of boost and the stock filter, no matter how many hole are drilled in the bottom will not flow enough. Even though I trust Sal completely I'm not sure I buy that. I really don't want a aftermarket filter. I don't really like the noise. If I have to do it though I will. The thing that gets me is I have had detonation problems every time the temp gets below about 65-70. Sal says some trucks will ping with the stock filter. That make no since to me at all. If the stock filter box was restricting air flow you should never ping. The truck should be running rich if you can't get enough air in. Can someone "splane" that one to me? I want to understand.

Are running these ported blowers ok for a stock block? I'm looking into doing this is all. I have a 6lb lower now but I would change it to a #2 or maybe #4 if I was ported. What is a safe amout of boost for the stock bottom end?

Any ideas on running the stock air box with this set-up (Apten with 15 lbs. of boost)?

Can't answer that, but I will tell you this.........

I run the open cone style filter. I had the outerwear pre-filter over it to catch the large pieces of dirt. One day under the hood with the motor running, I jacked the throttle open a couple times and noticed the pre-filter was being sucked in the crevices of the cone filter. Iam moving so much air, that I belive that the pre-filter was becoming a barrier to the air intering the blower. I removed the prefilter after that
