Differences in '99-'01 & '02-up block??

Does anyone know what the differences are in the two blocks. I have a '99 L and it is time for a rebuild (103k on original motor). Found a new block and crank (new style block), but have been told that the '02-up block will not retrofit to the older trucks.

What is different that it will not retrofit? Does anyone know??

03-04 block is stronger, but not a tremendous amout, just a little

the heads have 9 threads (I believe) for the plugs where as the previous years have 4 (once again, I thnk)

that's pretty much it man. good luck

The newer 5.4L "NVH" block will retrofit with all the older ones. There are structural differences in the areas around the side bolts. If you compare the two side by side you'll see the differences right away (I used to have photos somewhere but I can't find them right now)...maybe someone else will post them.
