I am thinking I can squeek another 10-15 hp out of a good tune and still be safe. The timing can probably be bumped a little too (NO ROB_02 jokes lol).

The Apten's increased thermal efficiency is conducive to high boost. if it were me, I'd run the apten with 2-3 lbs more boost than you have and run a more conservative tune fuel and timing wise. You'd get a boost in power AND safety.

Just a thought, but maybe people are breaking rods from too much timing. Could it be that high boost, and advanced timing is side-loading the rods somewhat? or that too much advance (even with safe fuel) is increasing stress on the piston by ramping up combustion too close to TDC and putting excessive stress on the rods causing them to deflect rather than spin the crank as intended? I'm really surprised that with all these rod failures we arent hearing about bearings at all...

i'm not a tuner, but I'd think you can go higher than 14 degrees on the timing. Just like everyone said, check those a/f #'s like you are. Good numbers man. Sorry you were disapointed with them at first, but like everyone said, you are making more power with a safer tune. So i'd say you got your money's worth. The ported blower is something I really wanted to do. It's just not a good time for me now. Im glad you can do it and enjoy it. Get that beast to the track. Again nice #'s man. I wanna get mine back on the dyno.

Just got back from my first dyno with my Apten ported blower. I expected to see much more gain than I did. While it is true that my previous dyno was high for the mods I had at the time, is still expected the 25-35 rwhp gain that people have seen over my previous numbers...

Prior #'s 398/481 SAE, 408/491 STD
New #'s 415/500 SAE, 419/505 STD (best pull)

The only things that were changed were I gapped my plugs back down while the blower was off from 0.045 to 0.040 and I had my chip reburnt as my A/F on my previous runs were 12.2-12.4. I hit 11.8's today. My tuner told me that my previous tune was still using the stock fuel curve too! And I still put down 398.

What's up with this????

WIll post dynos in a bit after I get them scanned

Have no idea why that last post showed up like that...

Shane,

You aren't the first person that has told me about the timing. I think I could stand a little more as well and be detontation free at the same time...

Sorry to hear your disappointed. But like everybody has all ready said, your comparing apples to oranges.

I made a point not to change anything so I see the gains from just the porting. And I did

Won't hit 11's with that HP.. Want a six pounder to get you there plus straighten out that fat air/fuel ratio? Hopefully you will hit 12.6 at the track.. ..

This sucks, Im missing out on the fun.

I need a new credit card.

Btw, wouldn't 15 pounds of boost be pushing it on the stock rods? And some of you are saying he needs to get a 6# lower? Wouldn't that be overkill on a stock block?

Probably a pound or two of that is due to weather alone though. Cool temps = more boost. I don't think I'll ever see 15 in the warmer weather...
