I don't understand this Ebay Lightning Auction

A used 04 with 1000 miles and someone has bid $31,991. And the reserve isn't met!

Some times people have friends bid on the auction to help raise the price. Usually when that happens they dont meet the reserve though, so the next real bidder will. I've never done this, but I have seen it done.

I'm about to pay 23k for an 02 w/ 16k on it, is that pretty good. From my research that doesn't seem to bad...
