Coil pack part #'s different ...
Coil pack part #'s different ...
Just getting around to asking this question... A month or so ago when changing the plugs on my '03L, I noticed all 4 coil packs on one side had the same number marked on the top and that number was different then the number on the 4 coil packs on the other side???? I was careful to keep them separated and get them back in the same as they were. Hmmmmm, I thought all coil packs were the same for the L. What do you make of this??
With all you guys doing plug changes on your L's I can't believe no one cares to comment here. I just don't want to assume all coil packs on our L are the same. Hmmmm, if so why all one part # on one side and all another part # on the otherside on my '03 L..

As far as I know there are different part #'s on coil packs depending upon when they are made. Ford also changed the part # a while back. I have taken coil packs off my V-10 and used them in my Lightning. I have purchased a set of 8 new coil packs from Ford and they had a diferent part # than the originals. I took some coil packs off my Lightning and stuck them on my dads 2002 4.6 F150. All coil packs are the same to my knowledege. There is no left or right side. No bank one or bank two. No driver or passenger side.

Why bother to ask
Well, as I mentioned in my original post, my new '03 L had all one part # coil pack on one side and all another part # coil pack on the other side. I had assumed all coil packs for the L were the same but when I saw this I thought, well, maybe they were not. Funny a new truck coming out of the factory just happend to have all one part # coil pack on one side and all another part # coil pack on the other side and for no reason. Guess they just by for whatever reason and not a necessary reason ended up like that. I guess the question I posed here was just to stupid or so stupid that those really in the know opted to chuckle and not respond. Now, tell me, if you saw the coil packs like they were separated on my L would you not think out loud, ask the question here, is there a reason part # coil pack on one side and all another part # coil pack on the other side as I found. Guess just to stupid a question..... I emailed my tuner and couldn't even get him to give me an answer.. I researched the hell out of 3 L related website forums and saw many guys talking they changed plugs on their L and what a pain it was.. never saw anyone mentioning to be careful as the coil packs were different. Hmmmm, guess I should have taken it for granted all the coil packs were the same although some had an a on them and so a b, ect.. You know now that I think of it maybe I was the only one that is careful enough, and cautious enough to even realize the coil part numbers were different. No, NOT a stupid answer I asked and got no say techs, tuners or such to chime in and give an answer......

Here is my guess. The engines are made on an assembly line so the guy on one side installing the coil packs had a box with different part #'s than the other guy working on the other side of the engine.
Holy rant there, Batman! I know changing the plugs is frustrating, but calm down a bit. Maybe everyone's just been a little upset over the new truck speed record, and now you've gone and hurt their feelings with all that yelling.

Ranting maybe, yelling no... Just was disappointed not to get an answer. I posted the question yesterday.. I show have just called Ford parts and asked if I needed to know so bad..
Oh, plug change took time and skin but not really frustrating nor did it provoke anxiety, etc. ho, ho, ho
