Problem with Predator II

Back to the Problem at hand....

I have had issues getting a custom tune for my Predator as well...
Last week I was in my truck ,
predator plugged into my Diagnostic Port on one end and into my Laptop on the other,on the phone with Brian from Diablo for over an Hour!
We could not get the Predator to communicate with the Laptop. It would try,but always get a "Timed Out" failure message.
If I'm understanding this correctly [i'm not the most Computer Literate guy around!]I Could send my Predator to the Tuner of my choice and he could Physically [sp] load Custom Programs on it for me??
Thanks for any help

I MAY have narrowed it down. When I open the PC interface Program I downloaded from Geocities I get an error message that reads "Comsetup Failed" [ ! in a yellow cation sign]
Brian @ Diablo knew this and we procceeded past it anyway, could this be the problem??

Sounds too me that your com port is not set up properly on your laptop. Typically Serial ports use an IRQ of 3 and or 4 . If it's an older laptop, it may have, as an example, a phone modem card , or an ethernet card in it which may be using one of those IRQ's.
If that is the case, you will have to disable the card that is using one of those IRQ's so that the serial port can use it.
This can be accomplished using device manager.
Not sure if this helps you out at all but I figured I would give it a shot anyway.
Hope you get your problem resolved.

Have a great day eh !.............Dave

BadBolt,

I'm having the same problem, I too have a Dell although it's a desktop and not a laptop. I get the same "ComSetup failed" message. I haven't been able to figure out a way around it. I've heard a couple people with Dell's have had the same problem. I'm not the most computer savy guy around so anyone have any ideas?

Setting up com ports can be a pain....

Sometimes ( with less than elegant application software ) you need to know port#, IRQ, Address, PArity, Flow control, stop bits, etc etc ....

The diablo folks should be able to tell you what the software expects in those regards..

Good luck...

Whiile you are messing with it remember that was one of the reasons we now have plug and play and USB.....

I know a fellow that had the same problem as you. He got a serial port to USB cable and after that all was aok.

Somebody might want to tell diablo that serial ports no longer come on some desktops/laptops.

I'm not sure why Diablo Sport went with serial port versus USB.
I know that many of us are using old, old laptops for in truck use with the Predator. Of course those old laptops do not have USB but have serial ports. To be honest with you I have seen no newer desktop pc's, laptops without a serial port. Personally, I use an old laptop with serial port connection and when I opt to hook up to my desktop I go the USB route using a USB to RS232 -Serial port, 9-pin, male Cable.

make sure the port speed is set to 57600 on the predator, port settings in the program, and on the actual port in the device manager (in the control panel), that was my problem. and btw, the program resets the port seting when it closes, so you have to set it to the right port and speed every time you open it.

The Serial port is the 9-pin connector on the Predator right?
My Laptop has the smaller USB? Ports on it.
I did buy a Serial to USB Port adapter Cable,so i've got that part covered.
We also reset the Port settings before trying to transfer.
[Didn't help]
I gotta think there's a conflict with Diablo's [geocities] software being properly loaded on my computer.
Any other Dell user's having problems??
