Question Magnum or Apten

I haven't been on in a few weeks so I'm trying to read up on all the posts i've missed. Is JDM still doing the magnum blower and if so how would you guys compare it to Apten's ported blower? Thanks!

Kyle

There is no comparsion, the Mag is awesome,
and even capable of running 10's.
Yes, it's less powerful than the KB, but for many it'll be a better choice.

Let me explain why, the Mag does not come on as heavy
and intense as the KB, due to that it's much less stressful
on the Motor, and a great choice for those still running stock blocks. Also because it's smaller and a little less powerfull, than a KB/Works, you won't have the extra couple of thousand thats needed to PROPERLY tune a KB/Works, things like larger fuel pumps, bigger maf, possibaly larger injectors, boost a spark, boost a pump, Dyno time, etc......

The Apten Mod is more for people that want to squeeze another
20-40 HP for a very reasonable amount of money. I'm in the process of doing that Mod myself. Sure I rather have a Mag,
but I'm already running big boost and Nitrous, add a Aftermarket S/C and we all know what will happen, so this Ported Eaton is perfect for guys like me that are already running at the limits
of a stock motor. Now if I had to do it all over, schitt I'd get a Mag and not have done all the other Mods I have already.

Great JDM Magnum Powers Dyno Vid and informative info here

The Magnum Powers should be able to handle more boost and will ultimately make more power than the Apten, but it costs quite a bit more also. Not as good as a KB or Works 140, but again priced quite a bit less than them. The Apten is good bang for the buck, the Magnum Powers is even better for more money, and the other two are the best and cost the most. It would really depend on what your ultimate power goals are. Then again, KB has been out of blowers for weeks (although they're supposed to be on their way), Works 140's are tough if not impossible to get, and the Magnum Powers has yet to show up although I had a deposit for mid October delivery. So right now the Apten beats them all!!!!!!

Forgot about that video Ronbo. It's a good one. I like how Jim went over the data following the run.

OK, I've heard it stated several different times that the KB comes on "hard" and for this reason is more stressful on an engine than say, a Magnum...or Eaton.

It has always been my understanding that one of the advantages of a positive displacement style S/C, is the fact that "comes on" NOW!

I've had a KB on my stock longblock at 15psi for about 5 months now, and one of the things I've noticed was that the KB's initial "hit" does not seem to be all that violent. Actually, the power delivery is very linear nad seems to build with rpm.

IMHO...The INITIAL "hit" at a given boost level on a given L engine, be it with a KB or Magnum, is going to be marginal at best, in terms of stresses being transmitted to the engine.

This is NOT meant to be a flame...just an observation

Later,
Rob

Sorry 'bout the novel

Save your money for a KB or Works; I wouldn't get either of them.

running the KB on a stock block, is like asking P Diddy if hes packing heat..........both will get you in trouble

Comparing a ported Eaton to a Magnum is difficult, because they are 2 different animals. I'll know alot more in the next 6 months, and if the goals are not reached, then I'll step up to Magunm or another aftermarket blower that doesn't have the problems that have been reported in the first week of operation

Please explain Bruce. Have there been problems with the first run of Magnums?

Good info Rob
Of course since I run an Eaton, I'm only repeating what I've heard. We all know it has been said the design and delivery
of the boost from the Mag will be better on a stock block,
I guess the fact it's a smaller (less cubic inch's) alone would
make it that way. Dont get me wrong, a KB is by far stronger,
but for some this Mag will be MUCH less $ due to not needing other add on's as a result. It's better than an Eaton, and not
as powerful as a KB/Works, because of it's $, it's actually a quite affordable mod and will be a great choice for many.

Thanks Rob, I just didn't want to mention the blower by name, as not to start a pissing war. But then again, the blower manufactor told me that there have been no failures
so maybe its just an illusion
