Talking Expy console in (pics)

Well i finally got the expy console installed after too many setbacks and bad decisions...

needless to say, the "sub in the console" idea was a flop...after fiberglassing and sanding for about 2 straight weeks, i realized that a 10" sub simply would not fit...lesson learned, luckily i didnt do any unreversible damage to the console.

heres a few pics of the finished project, and the little bit of customization i gave it...

EVERYONE!! Stop posting pictures of L's with center consoles in them. This is an order. I have spent all my money on performance mods and can't afford the center console. If I see one more picture of one, I'll have to take out a third mortgage on my house and my wife will divorce me.

Thank you.

Well that stinks I was hoping that would work out...was a good idea. What exactly made you decided to quit? Nice finishing touches though. Never seen one with the gray suede on it, always been the stock vinyl or the perferated leather from our seats (still my choice if I were to do one). Ya if I knew of one that was close to me I would have a hard time not doing this mod also

That looks awsome! I really wanna do the console mod but I occasionally carry more than 2 people. Plus I think it would get in the way of my sub box.

Sorry that sub didnt work out for you, it looked like it was gonna turn out great. Did you just not measure right or something, it looked like you had everything planned out??

Not a great picture...damn..I wasn't spose to post this......snicker....

I know you bass heads will appreciate this ...even if it still has the MTX's in it...

Since you'll be getting a divorce and going further into debt...you might as well see another angle....

rollinlimp and lighningsvt...when i measured for the sub, i had everything cut out of the back of the console, and i took the measurements. i have put the top of the black peice that i cut off back in to do the measurments, but i forgot to put the back piece (with the cupholders) back on. so basicly i thought the bottom culd flex out alot (about 2 inches) more than it could. i could have doen it, but it would have required fabbing a fiberglass back peice to replace the one with the cupholders...it was more work than i was willing to do, plus i didnt want to do any permanent damage to the console that i couldnt undo.

basicly i should have measured twice and cut once, not the other way around...

latemodelracer, the only tip i can give is to cut the carpter round the brakets, so theyll sit on the metal chassis, otherwise the console will have about a 1" gap inbetween the carpet...other than that it was a direct bolt up, you have to thread a few holes but i just used the bolts to do it. i alos used dupli color vs-87 medium grey paint, matches pretty good.

400hphd, you buy this part from ford...

then you take your bench seat to an opholstery shop and have them cut your foam and fabric to match the new frame...

hope that helps, thanks for the input guys

wolf_creek, there is this option...

http://ftw.truckmoxie.com/expyconsolesub.asp

that was an 8" that fit in there...i was going to do it that way, but the 10 wouldnt come close to fitting, so i tried to do it with a box replacing the storage area, but with the wood, it was too thick, you could probably get a 8" in there, id just take out the storage compartment and do some measuring...

big man (i fell kinda odd about typing that name...lol), i just called around to every junk yard untill i found someone with the right year expy. if you can find one, grab the entire passenger seat also, youll need three parts of it, thatll keep you from ordering anything from ford.

EDIT...not sure why the pic wont work, just click on the link, youll see it there...

Didn't even notice you painted the top of the console until you said something...

Could you have molded the inside of the console with the fiberglass instead of using the wood to make the box? Because the 10" actually fit inside the console, you just needed to make a box that did too...right?
