Offer I cant refuse!!!

I saw a friend today that has a '99L with a built motor, KB and all the good stuff. He made me an offer I cant refuse. He had his cams regrounded at Crower close to Stage 2 specs. He wants to do an even trade, my stock cams or his. He said the idle is to rough, that the truck shakes to much, and its to much for a daily driver. My truck is not driven daily and I would love that rough idle. So im taking them off on Sunday. I was thinking that I mite need better valve springs, but he told me the guy at Crower told him you dont need them. So Ill see how it runs. Cant pass deals like this, I just hope he hates his KB and mite want to trade that too.

If they have the same lift as the Crowers, you will definitely need better springs.

you might as well replace the valves and do a minor port ont he heads while you have them off.
I gonna be doing the exact same thing in a couple of days, cams port and valves.
Have you removed your heads before on your own? If you don 't mind let me give you a hand I'll be try it on my own as well never done it?

Im not taking the heads off, ill be doing it with them on. Ive never worked on modular motors before but I have experience with regular motors. Im not replacing the valves ill do all that once I do the whole built motor thing. My L has almost 29,000 miles its not daily driven so I think its in pretty good shape. Im thinking of not doing any port work on it. Im looking for mid to low 11s so ill skip all that just replace the Eaton with a KB, built lower end and maybe a small shot.

How much gain is there from doing like you are doing. I mean say a truck thats mildly moded will it add 10-20-30-40 or more hp?

Im not sure how much HP it will gain, but for free even 10hp is good.
