Use Mercon/Dextron III as found say in Auto Zone, Advance Auto, etc. Mercon 5 does dammage to the tranny in an L. Disregard what the label on the Mercon V says.
Also, change the tranny filter and clean the magnet that resides in the pan. The tranny pan gasket is reusable. Torque tranny pan bolts to 11-12 ft/lbs, finger tighten first before wrenching on them. Stock tranny will take 6 quarts of Mercon/Dextron III. Be sure to let vehicle warm up / drive vehicle. While vehicle is stopped and running, move the shift lever between all gears to include reverse THEN check tranny fluid level while tranny fluid is hot and truck is running. Be sure truck is on a level surface.
