I looked at this this afternoon. How do you remove the ignition switch? are special tools needed?

TrackBeast,

There are no special tools required, just patience and a cool head. Below are the instructions. They look more complicated than they really are, I tried to cover every single aspect of the installation.

Tim PS. Thanks Presby

First off, allow two hours for installation. It isn't hard if you follow these instructions, just time consuming and requires patience.

F-150 Shifter Installation Instructions:

Disconnect negative battery terminal with an 8 mm open end wrench.

Using a phillps screwdriver, remove three screws from bottom of lower steering column shroud.

Unscrew tilt handle and remove lower shroud.

Insert key and turn ignition switch to the "On" position.

Depress the ignition switch retainer pin (from underneath, looks like a ball bearing in the switch housing) with a small screwriver and remove switch from socket.

Gently remove upper column shroud to expose base of shifter, remove shifter retainer pin and slide shifter out of mounting cradle. Save pin for reinstallation of billet shifter.

Rubber shifter boot must be removed, look for metal clips on top and bottom and depress to remove.

With a pocket screwdriver, pry OEM shift **** cap loose and discard. You will not be using this again.

Remove overdrive button assembly from end of shifter using needle nose pliers. This is a tricky part since there are three small tabs that hold it in place within the OEM shifter **** housing.

After removing the "overdrive" plastic text tab, spread shifter end housing open slightly with needle nose pliers and grip overdrive button housing with needle nose pliers and gently pull out of shifter end. Set aside for reinstallation in billet shifter.

Three wires are connected to the OD button's female socket, (make note of the colors and positions, since they will be used in the same positions later). These wires need to be removed. Use a small flat round-faced punch to gently push wire connectors out of socket, trying to keep from damaging the wire end connectors, you will be using these in the next step. Gently pull wires out of shifter base. (Three new wire end connectors are included just in case the stock connectors are damaged).

Slip rubber boot onto billet shifter base. (A spray of silicone will help with boot installation). Slide boot above supplied *fish wire* to allow wiring to be installed.

Install shifter into cradle and secure with OEM pin. Attach the three OD button wires to the "fish wire" at base of shifter, twist to secure. Gently pull wires through billet shifter housing, exposing them at top end of shifter.

Use supplied shrink wrap tubes to insulate wire ends and plug wires onto overdrive button electrical pegs in correct position (you will NOT be using the OEM female plug with billet shifter).

With wires attached, slide overdrive button into end of shifter and install billet retainer ring.

Slide rubber boot into original position and clip in place.

Re-install upper and lower steering column shrouds.

Re-install ignition switch and battery cable.

Pop the top off of your favorite beverage and admire your work.
