Going from 6 to 4, Question???

I am downgrading to a 4 pounder due to some concerns I have with the 6 pounder and the apten porting. I was wondering if I need to reburn the chip immediatley. I figure the worst thing that can happen when downgrading, is that it's running a little rich??? Correct me if I am wrong...please. Thanks!!!

Yup. Worse you can do is be running rich, and running "safer".

Do get it retuned for a 4# lower, you'll reap the benefits.

Was the chip burned for the Apten and the 6#? You will actually be very close to the same boost running the ported blower with a 4# as you would with a #6 and stock Eaton. Apten_Tech has stated that you can expect a 1-2 lb increase in boost over stock. The only difference is the blower will be spinning slower, and producing less heat and parasitic drag. Either way, you're moving to a more conservative setup, so you'll be safer.

During my dyno tune one run was made accidentally with a 6# program & a 4# pulley. The numbers fell off by 12hp and about the same in torque.

I know this does'nt answer the question. But it's interesting and along the same line of thinking. IMO.

I'd rather loose a couple of HP and be safe for now. I am really thinking about trading in my chip and going with the predator. I dunno if I can justify 400 bones to my lady though...LOL. I hate sending the darn chip in everytime I change something.

Id run the same chip program but for some reasoon if it makes more boost with the apten and the 4lb lower than the stock and 6lb lower it may make it leaner not richer. might need to get it dyno to checked your a/f after it is done. I will be putting my 2lb lower on when i get done porting my blower so i can keep the same overall boost levals.

Do you know if the predator let's you view and adjust the a/f ratio? This way I wouldn't have to get the L dyno'd all the time just to see the ratio? Just another reason to get one...LOL.

It does but i have been told it is not acurate for tunning. You can adjust the fuel enougth that if you were on a dyno that you could make it perfect or dang close.

I traded it with someone here at the forum. Still have the chip for sale if anyone is interested.

I've been switching back and forth from 4 to 6lbs of pulley for at least
1-1/2 yrs now. Winter spring summer and fall NEVER a Chip program change due to the change of Pulley. I race it both ways, I drive the streets both ways, I spray it both ways, and I change fairly often, oh and I'm on the same set of plugs I was racing with, when I was in the 13's many many moons ago.

If your tuned right, it will run flawless in both cases, like mine does.

Of course the Apten will lean you out more,
because it's taken in more air. The million dollar question is,
HOW MUCH ? There is no diff between a 4lb and 6lb tune, the diff is how lean you currently are ??? some run on the edge
(you know, race fuel or BOOM) ad an Apten to that, W/O a tune,
and you may have trouble. Going down two lbs will only help you
right now, and actually prob put you where you belong with the Apten.

My truck actually runs faster with 4lbs than 6 (over spinning the Eaton) I will eventually Port the Eaton and continue my 11 sec
fun, but with 4lbs instead of 6 for safety reasons.

Rob,

As always, some very useful info...thank you. I also verified this fact with JLP (not that I don't believe you, I sent him an email same time I posted this). He stated that the program for the 6 pounder is the same as the four. I am really thinking about getting the predator, but seems that there are still a few bugs to be worked out before I spend that much money for a tune. When are you doing the apten porting?

Manny
