microtuner 1715 on '03 L

I posted a question on the computer chips section but i figured I would post here as it is Lightning specfic.

Any way I was just wondering if any one has any comments on the microtuner?

I was thinking of running it on the #4 setting with a 2# lower - we only have 91 octane so my thinking was that it would be safer.

Btw my truck is stock except for a k&n drop in and line mod valve.

Thanks for any information/opinions

Hey,

I've had the 1715 for a couple months now, and I have about the same mods, except I have a 4lb lower.
I have to put 93+ octane or it'll ping, so if your running a 2lb lower you might be able to get away with 91 or higher.
I had my a/f checked last week and I'm running kinda lean, stays in the 13's until 4700 RPM and then only dips down to 12.7 @ 5100 RPM. My best pull was 380/457.
I wish you could adjust timing and fuel curves with it but it doesn't have that option. I'm sure the HP4 works like it's designed too, its just I don't like the a/f.

Have you bought it yet or just doing your homework first?

thanks for the reply

no I haven't bought one yet, was thinking of it or the predator but i've heard that the predators have way to much timing and have possibly caused a few rods to pop

I might just run a 2# with no chip but for now i'm mostly trying to gather information/results/opinions

I may also switch to tr6's and a 170 deg t stat

thanks for your info

Well I never got any pinging with my 2 lb pulley and 1715 and it made a big diference .......I have dyno numbers in my sig. a/f was perfect.

I have a 4 lb now and a Air Force One and it pings a little sometimes at WOT , it might be the gas. I have not driven through a tank yet with the 4 lb on.

Missouri03L - I'm not sure how the Superchips tuner works, but if you get a different program on there, I'd suggest you get it.

I dynoed on the (HP4) setting with the 2lb pulley. You can use a 2,4,or 6lb pulley on this setting. I did not dyno the truck with the microtuner and the stock pulley. That dyno was done with some cheap 92 octane from a convenient store close to my house.........

The 2lb & microtuner is a great set up ..... I'll dyno the 4# to see what difference there is pretty soon..

seems like superchips needs to add a specific program for a 4lb and then another one for a 6lb for the most safety and usibilty

I bought a 1715 in October for my 03L. I felt the additional HP in the seat of my pants right away. No pinging. I only use Mobil 93 octane. I put on a Magnflow in November. It felt like I lost some low end torque but gained some middle and top end acceleration. I'm going for a 4# lower next.

captainoblivious - I'm pretty much at the same conclusion. It has two other programs on there, a "Towing" and "87 Octane". I'm going to try the "Towing" program which they also recommand 91-93 octane gas.

captainoblivious , conclusion was that hes not sure how the Superchips tuner works ...... So if you at that "same conclusion" and you start playing with the other programs on the microtuner I would remove that 4 pound pulley.

hense ( HP4 program) for trucks with additional boost.

I wouldn't just try messing around like that, at least with your A/F that high.

What I was refering to was that I'm not sure how the programs get on the tuner. More specifically can you call up Superchips or another Superchip tuner such as JDM or whoever else does that and say
'Hey I have a micro tuner, can you email a program to put on there'

And then they can email you a file and you can put in there. Something like that.
