Doing a FTVB need some pointers

Ok guys i did a search and didnt real find any good info besides how it feels etc.

Im swapping my oem valve body from my 99 with a guy that has a 01 and ftvb. It will fit wont it?. Also how many qts of tranny fluid do i need with a stock pan and what type of fluid. I would look the fluid up if i had a owners manual. Any special tools required, etc.

I have some basic knowledge just want to make sure before i tackle this.

Thanks in advance L brothers

6-7 qts of Mercon III and in-lb and ft-lb torque wrenches

Think its 8 and 10 mm sockets if I remember right. If you are reusing the stock pan, try to get someone to help you take it off to avoid some mess

Hmmmm....find Billarf with the instruction sheet for the torque specs since you won't have them with a used valve body..

Fluid you need says Mercon III/ Dextron and you can get in at AutoZone, etc.. DO NOT USE MERCON V (MERCON 5) as it will cause damage over a period of time to your L's tranny!!!

Be sure you buy a new tranny filter and when doing FTVB install be sure to clean off the magnetic in the tranny pan and replace it.

When changing the filter be sure you get the old colored gasket off with the old filter.

You will need Ft./lb. torque wrench and an inch/pound torque wrench!! Don't try to do the install without the inch pounder.. If you have to, buy it at Sears, use it gently, clean it up and return it to Sears for your $ back. Tell them you bought the wrong one.. Don't tell them I sent you.. .... Sneaky bastard........

*****IMPORTANT : A MUST is eye protection!******

-Have pleanty of old rags for catching drips, etc..

WHY NOT ????
Thats What I used

AutoZone staring at the wall for an hour,
The only choice for Ford was Mercon V/Dextron
But the bottle clearly says approved for Ford Mercon/ Mercon III/Mercon V/ bla bla bla. WHATS WRONG WITH THAT ???

All I know is that Mercon V will damage your L's tranny!!!
Gregg Evans will verify this. You need to get it out of your tranny asap.. Seriously!!!
No harm for very short period but get it out of there!!!!

i thought mercon V was just mercon with an additive package. I wonder what exactly causes mercon V to damage the tranny.

Your lucky rob, i can find mercon here a lot, but rarely do i find mercon V, which is what i need.

Holy this is ****** really confussing and rediculas Batman ???

I just visited over a hundred tranny fluid sites,
and I'm more confussed then when I started ???

It seems everyone has the same story, it says it does both,
yet some say it don't. Then why the Hell does the label
say it does both ??? WTF.........

I checked out the link billarf,
it seems most put the wrong fluid in.

Now I'm not sure what the hell I used.
Mercon / Mercon V/ Dextron , there's III's + V's and
MAKE IT STOP MOMMY

All I know is I stared at that dam wall for what seemed like
an hour trying to find the right stuff. And Whatever I bought,
it was CLEARLY marked Mercon (both) + Dextron,
(thought I remember some III's + a V in there somewhere), hehehehe,
But is was clearly marked Dextron/Mercon, I used AAmco Fluid.
MY THOUGHT WAS, HEY THEY'VE BEEN BUILDING TRANSMISSIONS FOREVER,
WHO WOULD KNOW BETTER THAN THEM ???

I have the reciept in my hand, all it says is AAMCO MERCON #119882 236996.
I guess I'll stop by there tommorrow
and read the label AGAIN
@^$#(@$#(@&^$#%(@$#(@#$(@#(@$

BTW,
While visiting every fluid site on the web, I just saw SOMEWHERE ??? that there's is also a law that protects this,
if you use a fluid that says it works and the mfg voids a wrrnty,
or the tranny goes, and the MFG is claiming it to be fluid related,
THEN the Insurance Co for the Fluid Maker, pays for the repair. Gee great Info Rob, that and a buck will get you a cup
of coffee (OR SOMETHING)

I'm a gambling man, The bottle said it works, IN IT STAYS.
