Airaid intake?
I just installed an Airaid intake and I think its great. The whine is louder, the boost gauge now hits 10 psi, and it does seem that it has a little more go to it(hard to tell with 400lbs of sand bags in the bed). I was wondering what people think of it as I have heard some people say some different things about it? Does it have good performance gains or is it useless? Is it a good intake or was it a waste of money for me to get?
Here are some pics of it.

Here is a pic of the boost gauge.

Thanks

I did it mostly for the whine of the blower. I did lose trap speed though after I installed the Airaid. I lost over 2 mph. My guess is it was sucking in too much hot air form the engine bay. I rigged up a cold air set up using 3" dryer ducting and a scoop under the front bumper cover and ganed back my 1mph and added 2 more to it
I was trapping at 105 before the intake. Then 103 with it and then 107mph after I set up the cold air to feed the filter.

Hey Big Man. I have my Airaid on the way for a Christmas present hopefully and I wanted it over all the others for the quality and all the gaskets it supplies for the air meter and hood. Not to say that MTIMD8 is wrong but I think his drop in MPH was coincidental for these reasons. 1-one's truck may not run the same mph all the time....it fluctuates. 2-hot air doesn't rush into the filter with the airaid...thats what those sheilds are for. 3-My brothers 01 L runs 12.8 at 106 with a completely open REM intake. I think you made the right choice....looks great.
airaid
That was my first mods to the truck and man u can feel the diffrerence in power gains i think i picked up atleast 20HP the way i could tell i gained some hp is when it was stock and i was doing 20 and hit it i would bark the tires and take of after the intake at 20 it would light them up..Deffenitely worth the money..
I compared an open kit at the track in my old truck and lost mph and average .15 sec in ET with open filter vs the stock airbox with K&N. I think the gains are minimal if any for an open kit. I have seen it time and time again. Maybe if you are making BIG hp #'s, it might start to help out. There is NO way there is a 20 hp gain from a filter kit period.
It does help whine though lol

Ive had mine for about a month now. I like it more than the air box mod with k&n that i had. Im in the process of rigging up some dryer duct and scoop to help bring in cooler air to the filter.

Just wondering, is this dryer duct and scoop the thing that brings air from the front grill to the airbox? How would you do that since the Airaid box is metal?

Yes it is.
I drilled out a 3" hole at the bottom of the box. Used an adapter fitting and hooked the 3" dryer ducting to it. The dryer ducting is routed to the scoop that is mounted at the bottom front of the truck.
