what's the first year the lighting was made? Are there any years you should stay away from?

the gen 2's started in 99. The 99 and 2000's have the similar wheels. The 99's have black mirrors, and dont have the overhead console. If you are looking to save money, you should be able to get a good deal on a used 99-2000. The 01-03's are a little faster. They have a different intake, a 90mm mass air and a 3:73 rear end. They also have different headlights, tail lights , front grill and rims.
good luck, Shane

Was it a recall issue?

When purchasing a use 99-00, what should you look for to be sure you're not buying an expensive problem?

Bill,

No intercooler problems now.

The 99s go pretty good too but I can't keep up with you.

A perfect L would be:
Adult driven
Un-molested
All recall work performed - i.e. Intercooler upgrade
Hummmmmmmmm lets just see - Yep that'ed be mine
2000 Silver Virgin L. 41k Mobil 1 oil only driven miles. Never raced or abused. Used to tow my kayaks on days off.
