Uh-oh

not good!

last week i backed out of a parking spot at a gas station, then put the truck in drive, and proceeded to get on the highway to go to work.. i went WOT to avoid getting squished by a log truck. a couple of seconds into the WOT, i notice my truck hasn't shifted..

look down at guages & it's in 2nd gear! i was doing 80-85 in second! not sure what RPM's that is at WOT.

i let off the gas and shift into OD, drive to work.. i don't hear anything bad. truck drives fine... so i don't worry about it..

this weekend, i start smelling burning oil.. pop hood & there is thin layer of oil on the passenger side valve cover and head...

last night i went to wash the truck. popped the hood to wash the engine & saw sludge in the oil separator.. looks like water was mixed in the oil.. @!$%#

i pulled the dipstick & check it.. no milky looking oil like in the oil separator..

i'm going to get the oil changed today.. BTW: the truck runs just like normal...

did i lift a head? blow a gasket? HELP HELP!!!

clonetek,

I posted a simular issue a while back, some said yes some said no. Well on Laborday weekend I lifted both heads putting 24lb of boost to it!

I did see a black ring around my expansion tank but did not see and coolant in my oil. The gaskets were blown out and dumping coolant right in to the exahust. Where your gaskets are blown will verry.

Coolant in your oil seperator could also come from a leaky inner cooler.
If I can be of any further help just hit me back.

Brooks,

You should have hit the rev limiter long before any damage could have occurred.

I believe you know about the head gasket issue on all 5.4s passenger side. You may have a leak on passenger side head but not caused by going to 80mph in second,
Ford Dealers have new Head Gaskets to solve this problem. There may be a bulletin
on this. I know my Dealer has replaced many Head Gaskets on 5.4s

BTW, at WOT you probably shift into 3rd at about 85, with 4.10s I shift about 80.

Jim

THE FIRST TIME i WAS AT THE TRACK i PUT IT IN "2" and did a burnout. 3/4 down the track I wasn't going any faster and the engine was screamming. I left it in 2. Shifted into D and still beat the Other car.

No damage. and my engine was a screaming!

yes. you either lifted a head or blew a gasket. coolant will escape from their passeges to an oil passage and cause a sludgy stuff in the oil

I don't know what to tell you, but this is my guess.

Going to 80-85in 2nd shouldn't hurt anything, but you may have slightlly lifted a head.

Since your truck is about 4 years old, the torque to yeild bolts and the head gaskets may just be worn. When you did you 85 mph 2nd gear run it may have just been enough to stretch the bolts that hold the head.

If this happened once you let your foot off the gas, the head prob re seated itself. This has happened to a few people myself included. When this happens the truck willl drive normall untill you get into a high boost situation. Most times a little coolant will shoot out of the coolant tank.

I am not saying this is what happened, and I hope everything is ok.

Let us know how you make out, good luck and happy thanksgiving.

went to the oil change place (WALMART! LOL) got under the truck to check the oil as it came out.. everything looked normal.
the oil was black like normal.. i bought a extra quart of mobil1 & poured it in & let it run straight through the engine, in a effort to displace any puddled water.. nothing but oil came out..

refilled with 6 quarts of mobil1 & went on my way..

truck runs fine.. i was just scared that i blew a gasket...
i'm gonna keep a eye on it..

okay.. been dealing with this problem for over a month now, and i can't figure it out..

every time i get on the truck hard (WOT), oil keeps comes out of the passenger side oil cap breather & runs down the head and onto the exhaust manifold. it looks & smells horrible..

i figured that i could just put the stock oil cap back on it & be done with it, right?

wrong!

i put the stock oil cap back on & oil now shoots out of the drivers side valve cover breather.

what could i have done to somehow pressurize the valve covers to make oil shoot out?

a few points:
there is no water in my oil at all...
the truck runs GREAT! i just set my best time several weeks ago (12.60 @ 107)
no missing or rough idle.

HELP HELP HELP!
