supercharger on new Lightning

I remember reading that the new Lightning might have a whipple supercharger, but I just saw an ad on the whipple site that it will have the 2.3 whipple. If someone already posted that please don't flame me.

2004 F150 supercharger kit

Yep.

Not the next Gen Lightning
Nope. Ad says 2.3 "...as used in the Ford GT and future Lightning"

Looks like Whipple has the OEM contract.

"It's a version of Ford's modular V-8, sized at 5.4 liters and outfitted with four valves per cylinder, a Lysholm screw-type compressor (a first for supplier Eaton) and two fuel injectors per cylinder."

My understanding is that Eaton is not the manufacturer, but is working with another company (Autorotor? Lysholm?) on the new 5.4 GT/Lighting engine. Eaton has to see the handwriting on the wall -- go to twin screw or fade away. Colletti has more or less stated that roots is dead technology and the new SVT vehicles will be twin screws.

Not so fast. It says that a twin screw, not specifically a Whipple, is "as used in the Ford GT and future Lightning." Any twin screw manufacturer can truthfully make that statement.

You're right Tim. I didn't think about it like that. It all comes down to lawyer speak and what the meaning of is, is.

The ad says:
"WHIPPLE FEATURES....2.3 twin screw as used in the Ford GT and future Lightning."

So I guess only a 2.3 twin screw maker could truthfully make the statement. Who makes a 2.3 twin screw?

Ad also says " Simple “do-it-yourself” installation"

Which means that ad is talking about aftermarket applications

Sounds like either way some new technology is coming for the Lightning and GT

I just found this and wanted to add it.
"Whipple 03-04 Cobra SC Upgrade Kit
Available in January 2004

Thats right, get the same supercharger thats utilized on the new Ford GT. With the industries largest, most efficient twin-screw superchargers, the Whipple can produce incredible power levels with the stock 4.6L Corbra engine. Run 8-15psi of boost on pump gas and have the ability to produce nearly 25psi for racing applications.

This is a direct bolt-on replacment with dramatically lower temps and power consumption (hp). No boost drop off like the stock Eaton."

So if Whipple is making the SC for the GT I'd guess they are probably making the SC for the new Lightning also...

A little birdy told me that when the Lightning comes back after its short upcoming absence, that it will indeed have the Whipple/ Works blower on it.

Anyone else notice they consistantly spell Lightning as "lighting". Not very professional if they don't even edit/review what they advertise.
