My first race last night

well wasnt really even a race.... i was on my way home and i was on the phone with my wife not really paying attention, but i then noticed this mustang next to me.... i looked over and he started reving... it was REAL loud.. (by the way, how do cars get that real loud rumble? take cats off or what?)

anyway, so from about 40+ we both took off.... i didnt blow him away, but i did pull on him and once we both got to about 85 or so we stoped cuz of trafic....

so i guess i would consider it a kill... im 1-0 lifetime in the L... but seriously... maybe its just cuz im used to driving my bike all the time, but it just didnt seem THAT fast to me... i just wonder if its the truck or me... i always think negative... so im sure its just me, i have to realize a 5,000 lb truck isnt a crotch rocket...

but it wasnt even a cobra... shouldnt i have creamed him? i have 4lb pully, ram air, psp chip, 90 mass air, etc

i wonder if my chip needs reprogrammed?

running from that speed gives the L a disadvantage since your low in the RPM's in second gear. so i would say that it sounds good to me.

From a 40 roll, Lightnings do not downshift, they just have a really good pull from that speed. Next time hammer it from a 60 roll............. when it downshifts its like your shot out of a cannon. Its not recommended to do too many 60 mph kickdowns on a stock block because the instant rpm spike is hell on the stock rods. They also run really good from a 20-30 mph roll!
If you have a 99-00 Lightning, those 3:55 gears are hurting you a little.

Nice Kill

When im out on the prowl for a race around town i keep the overdrive buttom turned off. With o/d off its a tad more quicker around those speeds. Usualy just take off then turn o/d back on.

Most will upgrade to the 3:73's of the 2001+. 4:10's are H3LL on the highway.

...as far as the rumble of the Mustang, it's a cheap set of FLowmasters and some better piping (including H or X pipe). Even with the exhaust mods I've done, I still like the sound of a nice system on a Mustang over my L... although it's nice to be driving next to one on his driver side, and blast him with some noise from our side-exit pipes Usually gives 'em a good jump!

don't plan on your stock rods staying in the dark after a ton of 30 or 60 mph kickdowns....use them sparringly....

I don't race other FORDS on the street , it's a family thing with me! But others won't get my respect ! P.S. not a good thing anyway to street race to, many variables like tickets, killing people, damaging my L, need I say more ??

Don't sweat it. If you dont drop a KB s/c on your truck, spray, or put more than 4# of boost on your truck, you're fine.

Don't let the other scare you

If you're good to your truck, it'll be good to you. Just take care of her, check your plugs every now and again, feed her good gas, and change her oil frequently.

Most people breaking stuff are those with LOTS more horsepower, upgraded this-and-that, etc...

Just enjoy the truck, and GO SPANK SOME RICE!

Louder - free flow cats. Remove pre-cats.

Legal? No.
