just washed my truck for 1st time

just got my truck Friday night... its a 2000 so its used, not in perfect showroom condition... but VERY few scratches...

anyway, took to handwash place and washed it really really good.. dried it off and there are a few spots that concern me... overall it looks like it just needs a good wax job

but on the side running boards, right behind the all 4 tires, there is these white spots that didnt come out with the wash... hard to explain... first thing that comes to my mind is maybe the dotted lines on the road were wet and previous driver drove through the lines and its splashed up.... its really not even noticable but i see it cuz i spent over an hour cleaning it up and its not PERFECT..

so basically my 2 questions are:

1. whats a good wax that i can just get at a store, nothing i have to order...

2. what might get that white stuff off the bottom of the truck?

I think Meguires (spelling ?) products are awesome. The swirl remover and show glaze will make that red look showroom. Trust me I have a black L and it works great!

White stuff??? You could try a clay bar to start, but it is hard to suggest a product without knowing what it is.

Good Luck and Congrats on your L!

try bug and tar remover first...but unfortunately i think those may be chips in the paint....mines an 03, black, and i'm already seeing white "specs" below the lower front grille insert from the vehicles in front of me (and the way i drive there aren't too many)....

hopefully it's just paint though....you could try polishing compound...just use it sparingly and cut it down with water....good luck...

Leeann try the clay bar first.. i haven't used it on my L yet, but it work awesome on my other cars. Then a swirl remover or prep wax (basically removes small scratches and preps the surface for wax). then use a polish (meguires has a great one) (but it's a pain in the a$$ if you don't have a orbital polisher) and then used the wax of your choice....just my .02

Seriously, use the gold series swirl remover and yes it works. I had my black C5 for three years and even after one Michigan winter and two Florida summers she looked showroom. Just follow the instructions and make sure you apply a coat of the show glaze it makes your paint literally look wet!

The glaze only lasts a few washes, but hey that's part of the fun, right. I will admitt it isn't the easiest process, but worth the effort in my books.

Leann, best bet for you on that vehicle with lots of swirls (especially a black vehicle) is to get a cute guy with an orbital buffer to buff that baby out for you. Work out some kinda barter with the guy...

Thanks... Someone else told me to clay bar it too. I guess I'll just wait until it gets warm out again to worry about it.... I have enough trouble washing it in this weather, let alone waxing it... lol.

leean, do a clay like mentioned and then use 3m swirl remover with an electric buffer if you can, if you can't by hand is fine, but do it in very small sections, once it's on it's nearly impossible to take off if its there for more than a few minutes. I've had great results with that stuff. Make sure its the "for darker colors" bottle.

3M imperial hand glaze is the best for swirl removals!
