Angry HELP-Transmisson Pan

Today was a home game here at UGA (Bulldogs) and I usually go
th the tailgate parties...as I was leaving very gently ran over the
low curb (look in picture) so as to go home...some friends were telling me it was clear to proceed down the curb...then THUMMP...
THUUDD...I thought I damaged the trim molding under the door...
got out the truck looked with my other friends...everything looked
normal....drove home about 10 miles...see red transmission fluid
dripping from the transmission pan....looked liked it was scraped on the curb...man do I feel bad....looks like monday the dealer will have to tow it to the shop for a new transmission pan...So WHAT
does a 2001 L transmission pan cost....I just dont need this...have been layed off for quite a while and money is tight....

there cheap...jdm/jlp/psp all have the aftermarket ones for sale, might as well get it from them since it has to be replaced. JDM has two different kinds ...one is the Ford racing on, hold like 1 more quart of fluid. the other is the moroso 4x4 pan...costs more (like $110 more) but it holds (and correct me if i'm wrong) 3 more quarts than stock.....it's i quick fix, no sweat - you can do it right in your driveway..forget about the towing and dealing with the service department.....if that's the only thing that's wrong

good luck...be happy you didn't F anything else up.....and stop driving over curbs!!

thanks for the advice friend.....and I wont drive over any more curbs...but you would think that curb (in the picture) would not be a problem for this truck...guess I was wrong...do you know if the factory trans pan is cheaper? how much?

I can get a factory pan which hold about a quart more for in the $20 range. You can do the swap yourself. Why pay someone if money is tight>??? -Mat-

I would put the Ford 4x4 deeper pan on and make sure you have the tranny filter changed, too. Pan and filter shouldn't run you more that $40 - but definitely no more curb hopping!

Good Luck

If you can find someone that has swapped thiers for the 4x4 pan and get the stock one for cheap or free. Then do the swap yourself - Easy work the gasket is reusable

If I was laid off I would try to find a L owner in Goergia with a stock pan in the garage.... Hint hint

If you were closer you could have mine...

SVT F15O :

Thanks SVT F150...I really thought the pan would cost more than $20.00....it just seems that Ford would charge more than that.

Dan_03Lightning:

Thank you for the advice...at 27,000 miles be a good time to change trans/filter anyway...I hope your right about the $40 for
pan and filter....and yes Dan I've learned my lesson...no more curb hopping.

Silver_2000_!

It seems that I'm the only L owner around here...even the local
dealer said mine was the only L they work on....
"If you were closer you could have mine"...thank you Doug for the
offer...I really appreciate the thought.

If anyone EVER wants a stock pan, just shoot me an address and pay the shipping (about $7 I think) and I'll give you one, I usually have a few setting in the garage and have a hassle throwing them away.

Factory Tech has said before you(we) don't need to replace the filter, assuming there is no internal damage?

Sorry, GM but I still have my OEM pan on or I'd send you one .

Factory_Tech:

Thank you for your kindness but the truck was towed to the dealer this am...since this is my only vehicle I decided to not take any chances with it. The dealer is charging me $37 for a new pan and due in am tuesday (I hope)...took some pics at the dealer to show you guys...the tech did not feel that running over the curb did this damage to the pan...Luckily the trans SEEMS fine and no other damage underneath...and the wrecker guy (Big Dave) was very careful in loading in on the flatbed.

LIGHTNINROD:
Thank you for the consideration...it means a lot to me. Will let you'll know how everything works out (hope there are no surprises)...the tech said if the "dent" to the trans pan was any deeper could have easily caused expensive damage...BTW...your
not too far from me (Athens to Warner Robbins).

Pics of the damage-

Tried to see if I could enlarge it but I don't know enough about these goldarned picture boxes .

Btw, if you have them loaded on your F150 gallery, just click on them and they should "enlarge" then. Then just "copy-n-paste" via the URL procedure.

Whoops, ya already got it done.

Sure looks like curb damage to me.

Glad you are able to get it fixed. It's to bad you didn't get it towed to your house, as changing a tranny pan is one of the simplest jobs to do, especially when you can poke a hole in the pan to drain it. Oh well. sounds like all will be taken care of quickly and you'll be back on the road in no time.
