Sitting at the gas pump fillin up, other side of the pump are a couple of younger guys... I stand there listening to the guy loudly tell his buddy that my truck isnt a real Lightning because "Lightnings only come in black, red, and white" (mines DSG) and "the exhaust comes out the sides on a real Lightning" (he was lookin at the drivers side of the truck).

Needless to say, he probably felt a little stupid when I circled around the pumps to leave and he saw the tips on the pass. side... and then pulled onto the street with tires screamin and blower whining.

 

my neighbor believes he knows everything about fords because thats all he ever owned, and he used to run a 4x4/performance shop specializing in fords.

he sweras that his f-250 and my L have the same 5.4 motor, but mine has the eaton bolted on. he also says there are no spark plugs and these motor can go under water until the intake is submerged. he says they have a black box where the spark plug would be...im guessing that would be the coil pack

anyway he told me that my truck is a regular f-150 with the eaton on a 5.4, and there is absolutely no reason why i should use 93 octane. he said they just b.s. you to get you to spend money.

he says the suspension and tranny are the stock truck versions...nothing special. he tries to tell me that everytime i go to the track i am just wearign the motor out and it will die one day sooner because i will blow it up (my dad believes the same) they think my stock L will blow up going 13.6 @ 102. my neighbor also tells me that the L's are built at the truck factories at various locations around the U.S. right along with every other version of ford truck.

a kid a work with claims to have the very 1ST TPI 5.7 motor in his 87 trans am GTA. he says it was the very first one off the assembly line for public sale. he claims bone stock it runs 12.97 @ 110.xx...i dunno if this is about right for this car or not but he is always full of b.s. because he thinks that with 3000 for heads, cam and exhaust, he can make that a 9 second car

the best was my g/f's ex b/f who bought a sonic blue SVT focus who claims it runs 13.1 @ 106, bone stock, and it will smoke my lightning any day on the street because he gets his HP from high revs

 

I had a guy pull up next to me one day at a light, He was talking on the phone telling his buddy about my truck. I happend to have my windows down, so he shouts.. "hey I love that truck man!, who makes it?" ... So I smile and say "umm..Ford?" ... he says "really? I have never seen a truck like that, thought it was an import or something....one of those new Jap trucks."

I had a guy who claimed that my xr4ti was nothing more than a glorified escort and was front wheel drive. Also, that it didn't have a turbo and if it did, I added it. I explained to him that it is more closely related to an SVO mustang but made in Europe with IRS. He disputed again saying that Ford didn't make anything Europe that got shipped here. I told him that he was wrong again and he then claimed that he's worked as Ford dealer mechanic for twenty years and that I don't know what I'm talking about. Just then a couple of my enthusiast friends, who know my car, spoke up and he tried to argue with them, he got so mad that I thought he was going to punch someone. We just laughed at him and he eventually left. What an idiot.

A gal here at work (she's late 50s) was told from the dealer that her new turbo PT Cruiser would beat Mustangs & Lightnings if she took it to the track. Knowing this guy was probably fooling her she had to come tell me about since she knows that we go racing all the time (wiht all of her trucks). I told her that if she brought it out I would race her first in my Wood, then the L. I even offered to have my hubby do the driving of her Cruiser since he's done it more than us.
