Never Thought About This Before....

I was just thinking...I dyno'd 356 bone stock the first week I had my truck. And its rated at 380 at the flywheel...if this is right, that means I only had a 6% driveterrain loss. I thought you were suppose to have more precentage of loss to the ground? Or is my baby just special from the factory?

Ford underrated the Ls, so not to have another 99 cobra disaster (Overrated)

But your L is still special.

My opinion is that the factory under-rates these engines. They make more than 380 stock. No way frictional losses could be that low.

SVT Girl is in the house

I'd say the under rated HP theory is a possible answer,
however there have been some SPECIAL faster than usual ones
that pop up once in a while. Some even as fast as a 1/2 second faster than the rest

The Dealer prob knew they had a good one,
and gave that one to you
cause your a Girly

There's only one thing to do SVT Girl,
Do what girls do best, and get Zexy

Greg says there is 11.6% loss in the tranny. So plug that in to 356 and you get more than 380......

I know Greg knows what he's talking about but I just don't see it. If you take 380 and multiply it by .884 (11.6% loss) you get 335 which is a very common rwhp number for a stock Lightning. That's if you believe these trucks only make 380 HP. I have never seen any automatic trans get numbers close to that, especially an overdrive version. I have never done back-to-back testing on the L's but have been involved in several with regular and overdrive autos as well as manual trannies. The best of the bunch (manuals) couldn't get that low of a number and the auto's I've seen done were 22%+ in loss (TH400 and 2004R).

Maybe these things are that low, I'm not saying he's wrong. I've just never even seen a manual that could be that low, much less an auto trans, plus you have the driveshaft and rear end. I think these trucks just flat out make more than 380 HP which throws these figures out the window.

Has anyone done a back-to-back engine to chassis dyno test?

Jody
