World Speed Record
Don't know if anyone has already posted this story but if not, here 'tis:
News: Ford Special F-150 is Built for Speed, Sets Guinness Record
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER - October 31, 2003
It's official. The 2003 Ford SVT F-150 Lightning is the fastest production pickup in the world. And it has the Guinness World Record to prove it.
For the record set in August, Guinness required the truck to be a production product, meaning it was identical to what a customer could find at a dealership. Speeds were measured over a kilometer, and the record speed was derived from an average of speeds in both directions, clockwise and counterclockwise, on a track.
Ford Motor Co. used its Michigan Proving Grounds track in Dearborn and clocked the 380-horsepower, 5.4-liter, V-8-powered SVT F-150 Lightning at an average 147.714 mph.

the sad part is, they did this article in TRUCKING magazine, and then not but a few pages over they did the article about the nre Dodoge SRT 10 saying that Ford was going to be handing over the crown for performance truck this year. How stupid is that , they cotradicted their own damn article by putting these 2 articles in the same magazine right by each other!

It took Ford 5 years to get their truck recognized as the champion, wonder how long it'd take Dodge...
I cant wait for these things to hit the streets so we can really see what they can do. I definately think right now that Dodge has the most impressive set up but I still dont think the average Joe is going to be able to keep this thing straight and hooking on the launch. I hope it turns out to be a huge disappointment for Dodge, then we can all send then some beer to cry in!
The new Dodge, at an MSRP of over $45,000, costs $12,000 more than an '04 Lightning and despite a horsepower advantage, offers about the same performance. The forthcoming '05 L should blow it away performance-wise and will, I'll bet, cost significantly less.
